I wonder how the parents are taking it now that the publicity has spread across national news. Heheh.

So yeah, I could totally see the shy nerdy kid getting legitimately voted "most popular" if he was still likable and easy to get along with, if not terribly outgoing.

O'Reilly is a jackass. Whenever someone doesn't agree with him he tells them to fuck off because they hate America.

I feel the need to state my views on minorities and deviations from the perceived "norm." If you are something be it, when your actions suit your reality, you don't need to shout out at the top of your lungs, "I AM DIFFERENT! LOOK AT ME BEING DIFFERENT!" It causes and enforces prejudices and gets in the way of you being you, because you're too busy informing people of who you are.
That being said, "You're gay, whopee... You can go to the parade now, and make snide comments about us breeders because you are somehow better than me." That attitude pisses me off to no end, and I've gotten it way too many times. I'll respect your decisions and judge you based on who you are and how you treat me, do the same for me, no matter what race, gender, sexual preference I may have. By making a big deal out of something you enforce the stereotypes and BS that are an issue. the Doctor says that coming out is difficult and cites percentages on the crap that the depressed kids do, but what would happen if there was no such thing as "coming out?" What would happen if kids didn't know how difficult it was supposed to be to express themselves? What would happen then? /rant As for the "High School Sadists," I have been on the receiving end of that in HS and it hurt badly. I was well adjusted, but not part of the popular crowd, in fact many of them hated me because of my scholastic and artistic capabilities and were holding grudges from elementary school. I didn't have the "you're popular" bit. In class while the teacher was out the girl who hated me the most, stood up and said to the whole class, "Who would want to be *Demetrius? I don't know of anyone who should ever like him." Needless to say her friends in the class laughed uproariously and added in their own bits. The only thing that kept me from jumping out of my desk and beating her to death (I was getting ready for my blackbelt testing in MMA and was wrestling) was entrenched gender roles and the fact that the majority of the class stood up in my defense. This was not the only nor the last time that events similar to this occurred, so I understand being singled out and picked on. People who beg for the public's sympathy and demand rights or privileges not based on merit bug me a lot and in general create and enforce a judgment that I cannot help but form. In summation, again, be who you are, expect other to be who they are, let your actions speak of it, not your mouth. I expect the same treatment, respect and preference to be given to me as that given to you, black, white, man, woman, gay, straight. I will judge you, I can't help it, but I promise to judge you based on you not on your societal grouping. *I changed this to my SN, she didn't call me that, but used my full name.

Due to the whole Fox News Interview section.
EDIT: Talking about preferential behavior, tweaking people's views, support systems or lack thereof, the difficulty and depression associated with the whole stigma, this actually making it to national news. I am of the opinion that by making this an issue it further cements it as an issue in people's minds. How easily can you treat someone fairly when you're thinking, "They're gay I've got to treat them extra fairly."

They do look rather cute together. They should be put back in the yearbook, there's nothing wrong with the same-sexness of their relationship. And you know, in regards to all this "shy nerds getting voted as most popular as a joke" stuff, even if it such voting is meant purely for kicks and giggles, at least you come out with bragging rights. I mean, you can't really shoot someone down who's number one. It's kind of like... making fun of a bear because it can maul you to death. Rather stupid, really. The intentions of the voting can be whatever, but that person who made it to the top spot is going to be immortalized in that yearbook. And yes, you can say, "But he was voted in as a joke!" He's still number one, and you're not.
In here goes the obligatory "Bill O'Reilly is a fagbag" comment with a dash of "He deserves to rot in Hell with Satan's pitchfork shoved incredibly far up his enormous colon." That was a horrible argument, anyone could see that. It's trying to debate with people like him that makes them so... unfulfilling. Like debating over abortion with a hardcore Bible-thumper. But that's whole other can of worms. All in all, the girls should be kept in the yearbook. Gay is fine with me, as long as you're not rubbing it in my face. And they really do look not too bad together. I almost thought they were twins for a minute.
