My point is this. EVERY roleclaim this early in the game is going to seem phony or defensive, because there is very little information to counteract that. This is true for roleclaims later in the game as well, although to a lesser extent. Essentially what a roleclaim comes down to is the potential gain vs the potential loss, as well as the estimated damage that could come from letting that person live on more night. Hypothetically speaking, IF I am the Don, as many have asserted, then the mafia would receive a nightkill regardless of whether I am lynched or not. If am not mafia, and the P.O., then the upside from my continued life is huge compared to the nearly nonexistant risk this early in the game.

Which is worse? Killing your P.O. because of a botched role/roleclaim, or lynching scum a turn later than was actually possible. Another scenario is that the Don is lynched randomly tonight, and I don't have to reveal a potentially beneficial role to the town because of allayed suspicion.
That line of thinking assumes there is an equal chance you are mafia or you are cop, which I don't think is true, and your roleclaim of being a PO doesn't make much sense to me since Willem Dafoe's character would clearly be a PO and I doubt each of the 3 detectives would be POs.

Also my general policy is when someone claims to have a PO role and found a mafiate and it doesn't look like they have any real reason to lie is to believe them and test their claim.

I am kind of suspicious of the production designer actually being a role but again I see no reason for Ecurt to have lied since the risks definitely outweigh the rewards here and I don't see how if ecurt is telling the truth about his role that he would get incorrect results.

We'll just have to find out, won't we?

You've just done it again, implied that within a turn you'll have a scum to give us.

Also, another scenario is that Dafoe's character or one of the brothers gets lynched, which would probably be less than pleasant for the town. Due to your mannerisms I'm very sure you're none of the above, and we have a witness with little provocation to make up random names telling us you're part of a mafia.

I really don't see (where i say) that I'll give scum to you. I'm saying(speaking) in hypotheticals. My role can just as easily be confirmed by me finding say, a townie role and confiming him.

Edit: GRAMMER

Because who would deny it if you say "this guy here is totally vanilla"?

THAT SAID.

I think it's very possible we have 3 or 4 POs.

It's kinda a classic setup.

One PO always gets "scum"(Rocco?), one PO always gets "town"(Duffy?), one PO gets opposite results(Greenly?), one PO gets real results(Dafoe?).

There's an entire branch of mafia in which you have those four POs and a serial killer.

I finished watching the movie, though I was only half paying attention because I was doing homework at the same time. I didn't even figure out anyone's names, except for that guy with a lot of guns("The Duke"), because he was just awesome. I'll probably have to watch it again this weekend.

I'm leaning towards voting spontaneous, but I'm going to think about it for a few minutes before voting.

Have I voted for you yet? No!

Holy crap, UNVOTE, Vote: SC

Dude... Scum roleclaiming a PO is weak. Don't counterclaim with that, claim something slightly less horribly over used and obvious.

Well, said vanilla would probably have a name. And that guy would deny it, maybe, if he wasn't vanilla. But then, of course, the scum would have successfully outed a power role. Since vanillas probably have names, though, they could just say "nope, nice guess though".

Dethy cops in a big game? Well, maybe. The only problem with that is that most POs here (read: every single one that's not in a game run by me) are usually rolecops. The only way to make a broken Role PO is to give him random results, so it's a little difficult for insane (reverse) cops in particular to exist.

Edit due to multiple ninjas:

Cause I just want to go over the possibilities first since I just caught up today. Anyway...

Vote: spontaneous combustion

For the reasons that everyone else said.

Like getting "Serial Crusher" instead of "Vigilante"?

I'm just hoping Loki didn't hand out any of the roles that he's talked about... They're fun for the GM but leave the poor people who triggered hidden parts of their roles with a distinct taste of WTF?!
