You know, batgirl, no one really thinks you didn't draw those. Melfice was just complimenting you, and TDK just doesn't know when to let something drop.

On my end, she is completely justified in reacting as she did.
It really wasn't all that clear that I WAS complimenting her.

It's all good now though.

Anyway.... >>

Celes:
You know, in comparison to the original Ryuk, that's actually an improvement. Even in comparison to other Shinigami, that is one ugly dude.

batgirl:
Those really are amazing. I'm really loving that thick shading. Whenever I try to do stuff like that, it never looks quite right. I have been working on it, though. It's one of the main reasons why whenever I look at comics, half the time, I'm not reading them. I'm just admiring the amazing art and am in awe. Seriously, nice job.

Here's something I found that uses a similar shading style. It's of one of the skull people, but drawn more anatomically correct.

I don't think I ever got his left hand just right. It still bothers me, but I feel that if I try to fix it, I'll just mess it up even more and make a big gray mess. Well, an ever bigger mess than it already is...

Well it's hard to tell because I've had to defend my art countless times from people claiming I stole it or that I'm not a real artist, just a "copycat" because I don't do original work. I'm sorry if I came off as bitchy or angry, but I hope you can see where I'm coming from. I don't draw as a career, I draw for me, but I still take it seriously. Anyways, everything has been worked out so let's see more drawings.

Ah, taking a break time finally. Yay!

TDK - Forgive me if I'm wrong or if this has been brought up before, but do you draw on a flat desk, sitting up straight? I ask because a lot of people have the 'slant' issue because of that. ^^;

batgirl - I know a lot of people don't like the copying thing, but it does take discipline and builds on skills one needs to draw in general... :3 So long as you always acknowledge what your work is and you're not doing it to infringe on others' rights, I don't think people should have a problem with it. (That said though, I am personally hoping that you might want to start drawing your own stuff, too sometime~ xD)

Mauve Mage - Thanks~ I'm glad Robokami is getting read as intended... xD I was a little worried it might "WTF" some people... hehe

CelesJessa - Haha... Yeah... they were sleeves. They started off normal and I got a little carried away~~ At least I stopped before they were dragging behind her on the floor...

Grandmaster_Skweeb - Thanks for the welcome! :3

Melfice - T_T;;; Haha... I know it's a bad, bad habit... and sometimes I don't even notice I do it anymore... ...I'm not as bad as I used to be though... Logically, I know one shouldn't put one's own work down, matter what the level... but... o__o; I'll try to avoid it... Stupid habits.

Savage Thinking - xD;; Whenever I watched/read Death Note... it just seemed like such a shame that such a cool character was horribly ugly.

It looks like you have a good start with the heavy black shadows. :3 When you try it again, if you make sure to pay attention to the light source, it helps a lot making it look 'right'. If you do decide to revisit that picture, a couple little changes could make it look a lot more convincing. (Usually when I make a huge mess of my paper with tons of erasing, I just trace onto a new one before I ruin the picture... xD;; I end up doing that a LOT...)

Oh man. That was more typing in one post than I'm used to. @_@ To make up for it, I offer a little sketchcard from earlier today:

Most of the time, yeah. I do most of my drawings at school. If I just make a point not to slant it, they won't be slanted, so its not really an issue. I'm just not going to redo a whole drawing when I notice it is slanted 3/4 of the way through and I'm just sketching anyway.

A lot of the time its like, a part or something was a bitch to get done, and I'm not gonna redo it because I'm not sure I can get it right again. =/

Ah, well, maybe something you can try is just to keep a board/binder/something tilted up a little where you sit (maybe not during class, heh). It might make things a lot easier to control if you're not viewing the paper at an angle. ^^ It doesn't hurt to try it, right?

Well if you want the picture to look like it's falling over, then no it doesn't. But if you want to draw regular poses or even just basic stances, you'll want your picture to be strait or else it just looks weird. I'm a lefty, so I used to do the slant thing to keep my hand from smudging the pencil. But my drawings came out all weird, so I just learned to draw and either smudge and erase, or raise my hand a bit off the paper.

From the drawings you've shown, the slant is noticeable though, so you might want to just try and use a raised binder like Celes said. In the end, sketches are sketches, but you should try to make them strait so that you don't get into the habit of slanting, especially when you try more complex drawings.

Celes: Thank you for the kind words. Of course I don't ever claim that the originals are mine, and like I said, I draw for fun and for me. Perhaps once I get some more time in my life I will draw some of my own stuff, but right now, I'm just having fun copying.
