would be more awesome if I didn't so strongly believe one person made every single one of those posts

That really only makes it less marginally awesome.

My biggest problem really was that it was sped up. The dubbed voices are fine the way the sound, aside from speaking too fast.

Over all, it's not that bad, to my ears.

Okay, so Viral? Viral is in the same level as Kamina. Their dubs just plain ol' suck. However, I'm astounded at how they nailed the Black Siblings. Kittan took awhile to grow on me, but in the end it was worth it.

Is it me or the speeding up of the scenes made episode four seem less jarring? Maybe watching it more than thrice makes it not that bad?

Oh, now four was just an episode that went on too long originally.

So speeding it up making it better isn't a surprise.

I actually kinda liked the direction they went with Viral, at least until the fight. He sounded like a stuck-up British Bond villain, and when he was making fun of Kamina you could almost hear him going "Oh, that's just darling that you think you can win."

Then the combining happens to him and the voice actor tries for an 'angry' voice and the whole effect is ruined.

I... I honestly just liked Viral all-around. I thought he was pulled off well >.>

Also, Kittan was good. Probably my favorite voice in the dub so far. Considering he's one of my favorite TTGL characters (After Kamina and MAYBE Attenborough (Or however you spell his name)), that's a relief.

And I never got all the episode 4 hate. I mean, yes, it's rather slow compared to episode 3, but I thought episode 5 dragged on even worse. Next Monday's gonna be a pain, because nothing that important happens (Rossiu and the kids appearing doesn't count), and we're gonna have the cut version of 6...

...Actually, is the cut version of 6 all that bad? I've only seen the uncut version.

I didn't like the visual style of it honestly, its just so jarring. Also, it served absolutely no purpose other than to say "Hay, Black-Kinsman R here! LOL!"

Which was honestly kinda brings down their characters somewhat. Maybe if the rest of the episode had an actual point, it wouldn't be so bad. I mean the parts with the Black-Kinsmen weren't that bad. The rest? Pretty much sucked. Hands down my least favorite episode.

I guess thats what happens when you get someone with no long term interest in a project directing an episode. I don't care how famous he is.

Episode 5 introduces Rossiu and sets up some of his conflicts in the second half, which I always thought was awesome. I loved the way they brought him back to making a choice he basically was trying to stop from happening by defeating the Beastmen.

Episode 6... well... Episode 6... Episode 6 is the silly fanservice episode, and I love it.

Episode four sucks because the guest director working on it, Osamu Kobayashi, sucks. He's a guy that's supposedly not "tainted" by the traditions of the anime industry, but you know what? He just plain sucks.

The fucking climactic battle consisted of Gurren Lagann and the enemy Gunmen holding hands and then of balls of metal ramming directly into Gurren Lagann's drills. It's just plain old stupid. I don't know why the guy gets so much love around the anime industry, but it's obvious he doesn't know shit about animation.

More information here:

Imaishi: For episode 4, the storyboard was also peculiar, but to do supervision checking for this one would be a thorny path....is something that I saw clearly (bitter smile). In my mind, episode 4, 5, and 6 are extremely free worlds. If I think about the 2nd and 3rd arcs after that, I get a fear that "If I were to tighten this up, just how much would I have to tighten them?!" So in terms of balance, I absolutely wanted this part to be rough, even if it means making it intentional. Rather, I wanted episodes 4-6 to feel like a completely different anime. That's why most of episode 4 was not fixed. If I were to adjust the length, or fix the layouts to add scenes that I wanted to put in, Osamu-san would have a hard time directing, and the layout checking work would come around to me, so I wanted to avoid that (laugh).

...

--So you took a story that's a bit out of place from the usual, cooked it in Kobayashi's taste, and that's how we got the episode 4 we have now.

Imaishi: But I think Osamu-san and I have a surprisingly similar nonsense style. So I thought in that way, episode 4 could work. To tell the truth, I wanted to let him handle two episodes, one that's serious and one full of gags. But Osamu-san was worried, that "I can't draw mecha!" Actually, Lagann's size kept changing, and "Simon is too small!", so we kept having to magnify only Simon's cells to make the sizes match (laugh).

--That's not in Osamu-san's field of expertise.

Imaishi: The mecha scenes were mainly drawn by Kenichi Kutsuna and others. In the first half, Seiya Numata-kun drew an amusing running scene, and in the second half, the action scenes were mostly by Kutsuna-kun. They're pretty skilled in the usual way. Rolling around and having smoke rise, getting up again and running over, I think they can draw these things very well. The same when it comes to rocket punches too. And, after the gattai it was Osamu-san's part again, and then it just wouldn't move at all (laugh). On top of that, I'd asked him to make the 16 robots get skewered, but he would only do 6 of them!

Everyone: (burst into laughter)

Imaishi: But well, having him draw over 200 cuts, it must have been hard for Osamu-san, so I thought I couldn't ask him to draw any more. But not moving after combining, that's rather like Yoshinari Kanada's style (laugh). It's like Studio No.1.

--Osamu-san is the former president of the Yoshinari Kanada fan club.

Imaishi: So, it means that he was using a very high-grade Kanada technigue (laugh).

It's not bad, but it's basically a mini-recap episode. And those are booooooooring (except episode sixteen cause that's beautiful).
