but back when I was in Middle school Creative Writing, everyone got told their stuff was terrible and that they needed to improve it, and here's how you improve it. Pretty much everyone came back improved, and we did it again and again.

Which hasn't happened like... at all in this thread. Just "Go home, throw this shit away, look at how OTHER people write, and try again".

I'd say that's good advice. I mean, we've pointed out specific problems with his writing. Poor grammar and spelling, poor description, and the like, and Mike gave a good example of how to rewrite one part. But really, he just needs to read what other people write and go, "Okay, how can I learn from this."

Did the instructor come in every day and tell that same person their writing was horrible and it offended religions and raped mothers? Did the instructor harp on it, constantly, for days and weeks on the hour? Did they ride that person like a broken whore for ONE bad piece of writing, offering them little to no constructive advice or just plain not giving them a chance to show an improvement? Did they beat the living fuck out of that horse until it was unfit for glue AND dog food?

I didn't think so.

Mods get away with being asses because they are mods..it makes them lovable and hated and feared and etc. It's not an open invitation to show how much of a dick you can be to one person over one subject.

Agreed. This has escalated a little too far.

It's all well and good to say "Okay, frankly, this work is nigh-irredeemable. You should drop this project, read a bunch of books and learn from those authors, then come back and try again."

It's quite another thing entirely to continue on afterward saying, "Hey yeah, you're a shitty writer, man. Shitty shitty shitty. Your writing skills probably drag the world's IQ down just because they're so shitty. You should go kill yourself."

The second paragraph is an exaggeration but not by much. There is no discussion going on here; just "You kinda suck, here's how to help" and "You can't not suck ever, have fun bagging groceries for the rest of your life."

I'm already pushing it a bit with the backseat modding admittedly so I'm not going to say any more on that topic, but I will say to Kirby that bud, if you want to write fanfiction that people can appreciate (like and comment on) then they have to be able to read it easily.
