I assume they are useless in the original version as well.
The German version that I played had something similar.

Or it was translated using the English version as the source.
Which I hope isn't true, because that'd mean all I know about Lufia is a mistranslated lie, twice.

I just noticed that about 70 % of this game are filler.
I can't believe it took me that long to find out. I can't wait for the part of the game where you just visit a sequence of dungeons for the sole reason of visiting dungeons. Then suddenly things start to happen again.
But maybe (I hope) I mixed something up, because my memories of this game are kinda blurry.

Chapter Ten

Boss fight, Entei digivolves, bodysnatchers are afoot, and this game has the most unimaginative names in gaming history.

Chapter Eleven

Another boss fight, some Dekar awesomeness, and a puzzle gets mostly skipped over after taking me half an hour.

Instead of mashing A in battles you could just hold L (or I think maybe it was X or Y... some button like that) to just attack with everyone.

I'll watch the remaining 35 minutes of chapter 11 later. When I'm done eating in case you care.

Edit: Watched it now. It's really entertaining to watch you struggling with puzzles even after you cut a, supposedly large chunk, of it and, I assume, looking the solution up. I think I always solved the puzzle differently, though. On my 23234 playthroughs, that is. Well, I keep forgetting details like Idura's part in the story. I don't know if there's the big climatic showdown with him somewhere or if he just stops appearing.
