I can try, but don't be surprised if I fall asleep around the beginning of act 2. The regular game is so frickin boring once you've had a taste of Median. I'm not sure I can even manage to unlock Hardcore by that date, if we're going that route.
Nevertheless, let's discuss a balanced team. I'm in favor of a Barbarian for tanking, taunt and Battle Orders, a Necromancer for Lower Resist, a Paladin for Conviction and Holy Bolt and as many Sorceresses as you can get for damage. PS. What realm would we play on? US West probably has the least overall lag for an intercontinental gathering.

I played median through lately too.
Median is very intense, it's completely saturated with special effects and everything has just about the maximum gameplay effects without being too obnoxious. The problem with it is that it loses pretty much all feeling of Diablo II... you lose the amazing "OMFG I LOVE THIS ITEM, THANK THE GODS FOR IT DROPPING" feeling because uniques generally drop 2-3 times per area, let alone act, and you lose the crisp feeling that what you are doing is actually doing something... crushing a skeleton... freezing a mob with a glacial spike, enchanting your party with an aura... it's like using swords and arrows instead of guns, you know? Feels more like you. But yeah, would be kinda rad if Median connected to battlenet. Well, speaking of balance, guess I should write up a quick list of mainstream builds. Currently Popular- Amazon: Multizon - I'd kill for a good bow.... but how will I kill? Javazon - Rip through enemies with explosions of lightning out in all directions. Assassin: Kicker - Kick you apart, she'll kick you apart! Trapper - Lightning or fire? Throw a trap in the room and everything dies. Necromancer: Summoner - Zoo? Fishy? Jailkeeper? The rolling bones keep rolling. Bone - Did someone say Artillery? Barbarian: WW - (((((WOOOOO)))))) Zerker - Defense? Paladin: Hammerdin - Resistance is futile. FoH or Venge - Resistances? Not any more! =P Fanac Zealer - For the Overmind! Smiter - The invincible shield. Sorceress: Meteorb - Fire and Ice! Chantress - Burn them, burn them all! Druid: Summoner - Hit nothing but mana. FC - Claws of fire, yo! Rabies - What's that? You're going to have to put him down? Hurricane - The living storm. Not Currently In Style- Amazon: Megazon - Fire and Ice, I shoot, you die! ValkTank - Sisters, aid me! Assassin: Ice Blades - Freeze and Die. MA Stacker - Lots of little lights. Ninja - Poison Throwing Stars, YEAH! Necromancer: Poison - Lag? I don't have any lag? Barbarian: Frenzy - WEEEEEE Singer - They nerfed my vocal cords T^T Thrower - Zon with BO, basically. Paladin: Tesladin - Electric Field Activated Frost Zealer - Everybody FREEZE! Sorceress: Energy Sorc - Mana be praised! Druid: Fire - Earth, open before me! Fury

While I don't have the time to join ya'll, I'll throw out these suggestions.
If you end up chronicling any of it, be sure to do hardcore, ending if all of you die. Besides, since the game is so old now, and honestly everyone should know what's up, the only way to spice it up is hardcore. Again, if you end up chronicling any of it, please make sure ya'll only play together, no outside play. That way, you don't have one or two pimped out characters saving the day...it makes it much better for us rooting you on Did I mention, chronicle it |

I guess I never cared about items the way you're supposed to. I like the building of the character's personal skills more than depending on shiny loots. That to me feels like it's really you doing things. And I guess Median facilitates that by taking the focus away from the importance of items. Heck, past level 50 or so I only bother picking up uniques and better, and then mostly so I can disenchant them and make the items I need.
(Though if it doesn't feel like "Real Diablo" because you don't have to run Baal twenty times to gain one level, we should probably be asking if the real Diablo feeling is actually worth pursuing.) Of course there's still the good drops to find, mostly from the überquest bosses. Though they drop 100% of the time it's still an accomplishment cause those quests are fucking hard. I have only managed to do three out of 30 yet. For that matter, if we were to play a Median campaign we wouldn't need it to be on battle.net, now would we? We wouldn't even have to wait for the patch. On reflection, we could do it while waiting for the patch. What say you?

It's been a while since I played D2. A long long while. I skipped the last two ladders. Or three?
Diablo II is one of the few games that's remotely playable with a Wireless connection. I'd be in. If it's at a reasonable time. In my time zone, that is. I'd love to play another Necromancer because I freaking love that class, both the Boner (sounds funnier than Bonemancer. Also. I personally never used a Golem for that one just to be different) and the Summoner. I also considered playing a healer once (which isn't a Necromancer at all). If this gets rollin and non-cool kids (i.e. me) are allowed I'd love to join. Since Hardcore is available from the start now even that would be okay with me. Even though I don't think I'm good enough for that anymore. Quote:
Though, I stopped playing the game because everyone did Baalruns rather than playing the game once in a while. I considered joining an Iron Man game because of that once. But I'm not good enough for Hardcore anymore, I guess. Hey, new idea! Let's make it an Iron Man game. Ha.

I was running a melee heavy Barbipants in Median XL, and I have to say that without a really good writer behind it, or at least a decent collaboration, you're looking at one really boring set-up on classic.
I mean, I had more fun storming Fauntzville or whatever and having to actually play enemies into particular strategies (It was the ranged-heavy multi-tiered level with flying dudes and five bosses spread throughout) than I ever remember having with an act boss, especially after killing them three thousand million times, and Fauntzville was just one of the mid-tier unique dungeons. And did I mention that you didn't have to kill something three thousand million times to be effective? See: Quote:

You can use regedit to unlock Hardcore mode in Diablo 2. I think there's a line that says allowhardcore=0 or something, just change it to 1 and it should unlock it. Works for .bnet as well.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Diablo II is the area it's in Edit a Dword to create AllowHardcore if it isn't already there and put the value as 1 and it should unlock hardcore. I believe that's it. I'd have to reinstall it and check again though just to be 100% sure.

I've always been interested in writing a campaign, so if someone'd play through it, give me some feedback, I promise I'll make it more interesting than "The princess is in another castle." Last edited by Seil; 03-18-2010 at 12:16 PM. |
