Xenoformed Earth: interest thread

In the year 2015 several extraterrestial objects fell onto Germany. After impact these objects dissolved into a metalic ooze which slowly spread out. Transforming all it touched into alien materials. This fluid, now known to be made up of nanomachines has been altering the planet into an alien world for decades. Nearly all of Europe has been changed, ocean levels reduced by over a mile and atmosphere is steadily been dropping. Scientists around the world are seeking any way to save the planet. You are a member of one of these groups. Your task is not defense, offence, or even evacuation. It is exploration, and hopefully, diplomatic.

To travel across The Line, and visit this alien world on Earth, to find out as much as you can, and if possible to make contact with whoever or whatever is causing this.

The above is the general idea. I wrote it as an interest thread because it would be a real info dump to not only explain whats already been transformed, but how its affected the planet as a whole. So before I do all that, who likes the idea?

I like the idea, mainly because it gives me the chance to create a non-human character that won't actually join with the party until sometime later. I'm thinking domesticated and loyal plant beast.

well abit about the alien zone. Its a metalic area of an unknown alloy thats far stronger and denser then earth. Inside are vast chambers filled was a deadly atmosphere that will kill a human in only a few breaths, though safe to have contact with the skin. Atleast in the short term

Whenever the nanomachines come across organic matter, it is broken down and rebuilt into alien life forms that are contained in the underground chambers as self contained biospheres.

honestly I came up with the setting before the plot. figured I'd go with something exploration orientated

Maybe an expedition sent by the surviving countries to find out what's going on over there before it spreads to the other continents?

yea thats basically the idea. Your mission is to go there and to try and figure things out, or atleast some new information. Its very open ended, and will be about seeing the changes to the world thats been made so far
