Hey look, we have a suspect!

(CNN) -- The suspect in the failed Times Square car bombing is a Pakistani who became a naturalized U.S. citizen in April 2009 and had not been on national security radar.

Faisal Shahzad, 30, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, was arrested Monday night at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York as his flight to Dubai was about to take off, law enforcement officials said.

Shahzad had traveled to Dubai before. He took a flight there in June 2009 and stayed out of the United States until his return on Feb. 3, officials said.

A woman who said she had lived next door to Shahzad in Shelton, Connecticut, told CNN on Tuesday that the man she knew didn't say much and claimed to work on Wall Street in New York.

"He was quiet. He would wear all black and jog at night. He said he didn't like the sunlight," Brenda Thurman said.

The real story going around right now is that some law-makers (read: Republicans) are mad that they can't try him in a military tribunal because he's an American citizen with no proclaimed links to any terrorist organization. They are really pissed that he's most likely headed to a civilian court.

On top of being a vampire, he's also a moron. That was one of the most poorly constructed bombs I've ever heard of in my life. You know, if you're going to disappear down a CIA rabbit hole for the rest of your life at least have enough self respect to not use the schematics from a Steven Segal movie. And the talk in the news of "the bomb may have been no good, but he's still dangerous because he managed to sneak this into the middle of New York" is starting to piss me off too. It's not that sneaky! Throw a blanket over it and he's just some guy with some shit in his car that nobody cares about, just like a million other people.

I'm also really shocked at how fast they've lionized the t-shirt vendor who saw a little smoke and went and told a cop. They've given him a medal, ffs! All he did was walk up to a cop and say "hey, there's smoke inside that car." If I were a more paranoid man, I'd say this sort of thing is part of an attempt to psychologically condition us to become more effective narcs for the police state.

I was kind of hoping this would be another far-right dealy like that militia in the mid west, because honestly I'm not sure how much more brown folk in the US can take right now and this isn't going to be used to make their lives more fun.

The funny thing is, I think the t-shirt vendor agrees with you.

The local stations have been covering him like there's no tomorrow, but whenever he's interviewed he completely brushes the media off. He just walks away nonchalantly and says, "you see something, say something."

How he got it in the middle of time's square wasn't that amazing. I don't think they really bother to check your car all that much. least not nearly enough to notice something like that. Which may have been his reasons for believing he could pull this off even though the bomb was poorly made and may not have went off (or be all that effective other then causing several hundred people to piss them selves).
