Even after looking at the forums I still have no idea what the fuck the significance behind the blue ribbon(s) is supposed to be. Like, I get the redhead died, I can see that from the last panel silhouettes. I just don't see where the ribbon comes into it.

It was a training exercise. They had to get Beefy McOwlmask's ribbon without him taking theirs. It's a comic about a man chasing boys around in the woods. The parts with the monster are just replacing Beefy with what they're training for, like when Mrs. Wormwood turns into alien monsters in Calvin and Hobbes. She's not really aliens and Calvin is not really in space.

I don't think it's that simple. We've seen there's real monsters in the woods that turn people to stone. The Lookouts seem to have an atrocious attrition ratio. And if you say Hobbes doesn't really become alive when no one can see I'm going to punch my network card so hard the blow will be transferred into the Internet and come out of your speakers and hit you in the face.

Well apparently there's two interpretations, one is they're really just training and all the parts with the big owl elk bear are their imagination, the other is that we see both a training situation and an actual encounter with the owl thing that happens some time later, where the redhead kid getting his ribbon snatched in training foreshadows his death in the actual encounter. Incidentally this ambiguity seems to be what people are mostly complaining about but I think it's actually a pretty good idea and rather compelling, I'm really just miffed that the whole thing fell a bit flat because the ribbon thing is so obscure.
e: also that Freakangels thing, hoshit indeed. Apparently Ellis has an ending already in mind, too, and we're more than halfway there. It's an intriguing comic. Different from his usual stuff (I keep waiting for a character who can at least hear radio signals or something, but nothing!). e2: vv yeah, but it could also be read a different way. Then again I like the official reading better, anyway, and I'm also not about to argue with the guys who wrote it. |

Time is something else.

Here is the comic that, by all means, should have won The Escapist's webomic contest instead of the bland mediocrity that did. I present... Manly Guys Doing Manly Things
I will no longer accept any explanation other than this as to how Magikarp work.

It's good to see that Coelasquid got a new website for that. Was beginning to wonder.
