TV Treme: Like Glee with Black People and Good Music

So, really, nothing like Glee at all, really.

First season just wrapped up this past Sunday, but I only now got a chance to sit and down and watch the extended finale. What'd everyone think?

Personally, I've liked the entire season. I was worried that Simon would try to use post-Katrina New Orleans to revisit the major themes of The Wire, but instead it was a much simpler character study of the people that lived through those troubled times. I know my friend couldn't get over how plotless/meandering it could feel at times, but for me the fact that not everything mattered/was connected gave the entire season a sort of impromptu atmosphere about it, and the points at which it got really good prove that Simon and his writers are still the best teleplay writers on the planet. Even the parts at which it got kind of mildly unenjoyable *cough* Sonny *cough* were relatively minor and mostly just felt like filler instead of pains.

But mostly, I liked watching a series in which music had such power. To me, the songs in Glee just feel like interchangeable pieces to allow for the real point of the show, performance. Treme shows how to make music matter.

And if nothing else, it's opening is definitely the best one on TV now, and probably ever.

I actually like Treme more than The Wire, The Wire is a really phenomenal/spectacular/fantastic/[Insert Superlative Here] show. But Treme doesn't make me want to kill myself.

According to Simon, in Season 2 Depressing Recent History 'Spoilers'drugs and violence start coming back in a big way.

But, he also said that they'll start incorporating more genres of music into the show. More of that Chinese shit!
