Just want to make Michael's summoning is supposed to work how I envisioned it worked.

Michael's puma isn't an actual puma. It's basically a creature made of magic. It doesn't exist when Michael doesn't have it summoned, which for now is before he makes it appear to "feed", and after that the moment it's gone from his sight.

Bringing this up because how I took summoning isn't how Krogo has it, where Filia is an actual living dragon and Dean can make her appear (and disappear?) on a whim.

From what Teal explained to me is, Filia can be summoned from where she is and then when she's de-summoned she returns to where she was before the summoning.

She can walk around normally without being summoned if he takes her out from the basement and then takes her back there after wards. It's a little complicated but it makes sense for the Dragon of a Dragon Rider to be a real creature.

Generally, summons do exist in some form or another even when they aren't summoned. This can include only in the summoner's mind or memories; they don't need to physically exist.

But this is really a case of our summons are different. Dean's dragon isn't quite the same as Michael's puma because they use (and have learned about) magic differently.
