"Fair enough. We should both prepare as best as we can." Jackson replied to Jay. "I dunno who we could bring instead of Dea, though, so I guess he's still in. I'll talk to him."

"Don't worry. We'll all get expelled tomorrow if it goes south. See you at homeroom." He said to Sao as she left, smiling.

Watching Sao leave brought someone to his attention that he'd ignored before. The girl who'd introduced herself as Jo Imirsdotter. Jack became visibly nervous. "Ahhh... crap... S-sorry. I guess we kind of got really into discussing this duel. Sorry." He said apologetically to Jo, turning to her.

"I... ah... Do you have any suggestions on who we could bring as our third, Miss Imirsdotter?" He stumbled over her last name a little, trying to make sure to get the pronunciation right.

"So, what do you think?"
"I won't hold my breath, but I'm looking forward to the results."
Astarte sighed. It was difficult to impress Astarte's mother, especially when the both of them were more or less doomed to live in undeath, together and forever.
"So what are you getting ready for now?" Nephthys asked.
"Well, there's no homework or nothing, so me and some of the other cheerleader girls are off to go do some practice outside."
"Oh, that sounds nice."
"Relax, Mom. I'm not the girl I used to be."
"Right, because you're a mummy now."
Astarte chuckled. Even her mother could make a stupid joke like that. "C'mon, you know what I mean. Anyways, I'll probably wanna go to bed the moment I get back so no more talking tonight, okay?"
"Of course. Good night, sleep tight, don't let the scarabs bite."
"Thanks, Mom."

Astarte met with Vanilla and about ten other cheerleaders outside, not far from the Field of Honor. Linda the zombie, who wasn't a member of the Cheerleading Club, happened upon the practice and decided to stick around and see her friend dance.
"This is probably going to happen a lot, huh?" Astarte asked Vanilla.
"Our club captain would prefer that we have different cheers for each sports club."
"That's a good idea. It sounds kind of cheap to have the same cheers for everything."

The song? "Circus" by Brittany Spears. The practice was much different than what they did earlier today. The earlier practice focused on building stamina and endurance. This time, all they did was dance and dance and dance perhaps a little more. Astarte was pretty much running off of adrenaline after the first few runthroughs.

A short exchange between Hannah and the still-unnamed-trenchcoat-clad boy resulted in his (wise) decision to get out of her way. "Oh," the young man paused in his retreat, before turning back toward her. "And I don't know what you're smiling about. I'm taking a bitch down a few pegs, so I've got that to feel happy about. I don't know what you've accomplished here, seeing as we were all going to be expelled anyway, right?"

Hannah's confident smile didn't flinch. It only broadened at the youth's words.

She had been about to leave, yet again, when another voice - quiet, chilly and feminine - interrupted her. "Professor Shuyin will expel a classload of first year students," Hannah turned around, confusion coloring her face momentarily as her green eyes shifted, searching for the sound's source, "because they have been in the presence of one woman for a few hours?"

Standing a few inches shorter than herself, a girl clad in a pale gray hoodie slipped out from behind the broad chested bulk of Al. Hannah's clear eyes widened at the sight, though whether it was from how effectively she had made use of the blindspot that her bodyguard had created, the unnerving pallor of her skin and hair, the girl's words themselves - or something else entirely - was far from certain.

"That's so uncouth." Her pale hands shifted, sliding deftly into the pockets of her dark blue jeans. "I'd honestly thought more of him." The girl's gaze shifted upward, from the varying browns of the Cafeteria's floor tiles, toward her blond target. This time, a small gasp escaped Hannah's lips - the newcomer had eyes as black as coal.

"Jo Imirsdotter by the way." She introduced herself, essaying a small wave.

Hannah was silent for a moment, green eyes regarding Jo critically, as an Artist might regard another's painting. "...my name," She offered at length, expression difficult to read, "is Hannah Iriumi." The blond's hand moved gently in the direction of her bodyguards, "These are my associates, Al and Zet." Whether or not Jo had heard their introduction earlier - as it had been quieter, and across the cafeteria - was no longer subject to question.

"As to your earlier comment," her tastefully tanned arms loosely crossed beneath her breasts, "I have full confidence in Professor Shuyin's power of judgment." Hannah lifted her chin slightly, stance seeming to dare Jo to contradict her words, "He will do what he must, in the best interests of both the students in his care, this school, and the world."

"And," Hannah's arms slipped to her sides, "I assure you, Miss Imirsdotter-" her pronunciation was slightly exaggerated, though accurate, "-Professor Landry's presence suits none of those things."

* * * * * *

...three, four, five, six, se-

Adeline came back to herself with a start. She was being kissed. People were watching! Why was she counting!? And why did his muscles have to be so firm and toned and-

Her aura flared, dark red supernatural power bursting to nearly blinding light - bright enough that even the supernaturally blind Diana could see it.

Flashing like a mirror in the evening light, something straight, long and metallic slipped out from the thick foliage above Kohana. Falling end over end, the shape plummeted down - leaving a faint trail of dark red supernatural energy as it passed. Spinning with impossible accuracy, the object passed within inches of the trenchcoat clad youth's head, falling down, down, down...

...until its tip jammed itself - shallowly - through his coat, into his ass.

A ninja sword!?

Professor Landry's warning!

On the other side of the tree's top, a squirrel lithely launched itself to the ground. Landing with a surprisingly agile roll, the small creature threw a critical look at the group of humans on the other side of the planter, before letting out a high pitched series of chitters that sounded, suspiciously, like laughter. Quickly, the small brown shape scampered off.

Fleeing the scene of the crime!?!

* * * * * *

Hannah's green eyes registered movement from the de facto Q-111 meeting table. Whatever Jo's reply - if she decided to offer any - might have been, a grimace quickly replaced Hannah's, formerly cordial, expression. The trenchcoat wearing - and still unintroduced - boy was scurrying over toward them.

The blond sighed, seeming genuinely disappointed by the interruption the fast approaching youth represented. "Well, perhaps we'll have another opportunity to chat." She spun on her heel, offering a backhanded wave over her shoulder in farewell, "It was a pleasure to meet you Jo." She added, slipping out the door in front of her - just as Jack arrived to address the Jotun.

Her bodyguards quickly followed.

Right out of nowhere during the introductions of Sean. Adeline, and Diana, another student joined the fray. A fellow lacking a shirt, showing off his quite well toned abs, walked right in and attacked the conversation.

'Who is this douchebag?'

"Kohana Akecheta, pal-" there's an answer to that question "-I'm in Landry's class too, but I got a little lost today. I'm sure she'll forgive me, right?" He spoke to the Canadian with a chuckle. "If not, well, I'll just have to convince her otherwise, right?"

"Uhh well I wo-"

"Oh, excuse me a second."

This really stopped being funny a while ago. Sean fancied himself a nice fellow, and he believed he could tolerate other people well, but there was something about this guy that just rubbed him the wrong way. Probably the lack of a shirt. 'Showoff.' There really should be some sort of dress code at this place.

Then the kiss. As if walking around having your wonderfully toned body shown for all to see wasn't bad enough, he had to show his egotism even more by kissing Sue for next to no reason. Sean couldn't stand for this.

Sean put on his serious face and started to stride forward at the two. "Hey so do you two know eachother or are you just - WOAH!" This time the unfortunate hockey player was cut off by something aside from words. It was a ninja sword. And it glowed with a faint aura. Also, it was in his ass. Sean let out a brief chuckle of satisfaction before going back to the topic at hand.

"I wouldn't make any quick movements guy," Sean said, pointing at the blade, "lest you want it to move in deeper. Do you? I don't think you do. Either way, I'm not pulling it out."

As Shinobu had bulled her way angrily from the cafeteria, Jo had stopped her, asked the ogre her name and whether she'd missed class on account of being sick. The oni had been aggressive, quickly mellowing as she'd realised the stranger was another of her classmates, and one with such curious eyes...

"You can call me Shin." the towering schoolgirl replied, her hand engulfing Jo's as she accepted the handshake. Jo's grip was very gentle, but she didn't wince as Shin's powerful grip compressed the icy bones of her hand.

"Hahah, stick your hand in a freezer or somethin?" Shin asked.

"No." Jo said softly.

"Eeeh...nevermind." Shin said, starting to be put a little on edge by Jo's pale appearance, chill touch and dark eyes. She changed the subject. "And naw, I slept in. Did I miss anythin?"

"Professor Landry." Jo replied, looking back into Shinobu's unusual red and blue eyes as if she was searching for something. "She said she was here to teach us about love and fighting. And for those who fail her class?"

She said the Professor's ultimatum in a flat and uninflected voice. "Death."

Jo let it hang in the air for a moment. Then she smiled. "There was an argument over strength versus passion, we started forming teams for the group projects and then Professor Landry got in a fight with another teacher, challenged him to a duel and now we'll be facing Professor Shuyin and his entire class at the Field of Honour at 4 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Landry said we should bring 'whatever we think we'll need to fight off hordes of heartbroken fangirls'."

"I'm pleased to meet you Shin."

* * *

Something about Jo had surprised Hannah, whether it had been her unnoticed entry, opening barb or possible eerie albino powers.

Whatever it was, Hannah stayed silent for a moment, watching Jo critically. "...my name," she finally said, "is Hannah Iriumi. These are my associates, Al and Zet." the blond third year added, indicating her identically burly minions.

"Do they have last names?" Jo asked, a tiny, possibly imaginary, lilt of amusement to her voice.

Hannah laid down her point: Professor Shuyin was the best and would do what he thought was best for his class, the students of this school and all the girls and boys all around the world.

It probably involved expelling them all since Landry was a stain on the good name of this school.

"I'll have to bow to your judgement." Jo said pleasantly, something sharp edged abut the glint in her black eyes. "After all, I can hardly pass fair judgement on someone I've only met in passing."

Jack was headed this way and Hannah didn't want to have to deal with him again. "Well, perhaps we'll have another opportunity to chat." she sighed. "It was a pleasure to meet you Jo." she said, giving a back handed wave as she slipped out the door, flunkies in tow.

"I... ah... Do you have any suggestions on who we could bring as our third, Miss Imirsdotter?" Jack asked, taking care to make sure he pronounced her name right.

"Let me think." Jo drawled, folding her arms to put one hand up to her chin thoughtfully. "You've got an angry boy with a baseball bat and a troubled past and a student extraordinaire who kicks ass at just about everything." You could almost see the quotation marks clicking neatly into place as she parroted part of his introduction speech back to him. "Travelling from desk to desk with the greatest of ease." she accompanied that sentence with a penetrating look and a truely inscrutable expression. "Do you even need a third person?"

"Let me think. You've got an angry boy with a baseball bat with a troubled past and a student extraordnaire who kicks ass at just about everything." Jack blushed and shifted awkwardly where stood as Jo threw his own speech back at him. "Travelling from desk to desk with the greatest of ease." she added with a penetrating stare. "Do you even need a third person?"

"Aaahhh... heheheh..." He chucked nervously. "That was... um... I got kinda carried away in class. In retrospect, that whole introduction was one big mistake." Unable to look Jo in the eye, Jack had been focusing on a spot on the wall three inches to the left of her head. He had enough sense not to elaborate on the teleporting, since he still wasn't sure who in his class, if anyone, knew about magic. "So, um... we're probably going to need a third."

"So...the class is about love and...fightin? That should be easy." The comment was more of a mental note to herself before continuing. "Wait, she can't kill students who fail. Isn't that illegal or somethin?" Shin's voice made her sound more amused than convinced.

Jo smiled, elaborating instead on the upcoming duel. She also seemed to be watching for a reaction or...something. It wasn't helping that Shin was trying to remember everything she could about feminine snow-ghosts, causing a trickle of blue in her own eyes. She ended up cutting the thought process off, focusing on the duel details.

"Aw crap, I have detention tomo-" It dawned on the oni what the 'expendable clothing' was for. A mischevious smile was formed on the oni's mug. "Well, I guess I have somethin to look forward to. Thanks Jo." Shin's gaze met Jo's searching eyes, still a bit put off by her lingering thought. It was less evident this time though-her mind was more on beating people to a bloody pulp.

"I'm pleased to meet you Shin." Jo certainly knew how to play the mind games, Shin observed.

"Well thanks. I'll see you tomorrow, I guess? I should train a little back in my room to prepare." She gestured towards the dorm rooms and prepared to leave-still not wanting to offend the icy figure.

It had been an interesting day.

Things were going great, in Kohana's mind. He'd snapped Adeline out of her rambling stupor somewhat, he'd gained the respect of a classmate, and could now step back and bask in the admiration of -

Ok, so maybe things weren't going as swimmingly as Kohana liked to think, but that wasn't going to stop the youth from enjoying himself. And Miss Fletcher seemed to enjoying -her- self as well, judging by the way she was admiring his muscular frame...

That is, until something very sharp and very painful fell from the sky and stabbed the native in the ass.

Kohana instinctively crushed Adeline against his body as he howled, quite literally, in pain. After a few moments of yelping in pain, the native released Adeline tentatively, taking care not to jostle the sword in his ass more than it needed to be.

But god -damn- it hurt!

Tears welled at the corners of his eyes as he slowly moved his arms, trying to grasp the hilt of the sword. Fuckin' hell why'd it have to -hurt- that much?! He winced with every movement, unable to get a hold of the sword to remove it.

Eventually, the metal object fell to the ground, having dislodged itself from all of Kohana's moving around. As soon as the clatter of metal-on-stone reached his ears, Kohana spun around and crouched, grabbing the sword up and flinging it one-handed at the tree it'd fallen out of.

The blade hit the trunk with a loud "thunk" and fell to the ground again.

The youth took a deep, calming breath, then another, then another, then one more for good measure. He then turned back to Miss Fletcher with a smile.

"Good to see you aren't flying off at the mouth now. You oughta relax a little; pretty girl like you gets that high strung, she'll have grey hair way before her time."

With that, he grit his teeth and tried very -very- hard to ignore the blood running down his ass and leg.

"Well, as nice as it was to meet you all, I've got a squirrel to cook up." He grumbled softly to himself as he started to walk to the stairs, limping just slightly.

"Nothin' hurt but my pride, nothin' hurt but my pride, nothin' hurt but my pride... See you gals and guy later..."

Dean was whistling happily as he made his way down the hallways of the school. He was snacking on a bag of chips he had gotten from a machine and wasn't paying much attention to anything, let alone where he was going. It really didn't matter to him where he went. He had quite enjoyed the time he spent training with Filia. The poor girl always seemed lonely without him. What a wonderful day it's been today, a fun little argument, a bit of time with his Dragon and even better, now he just needed to get some real food.

He entered the Cafeteria and threw out the empty bag of chips and headed towards the food line, picking up a few of the things he could eat, filling his tray up nicely. He turned and looked around, he then looked for a place to sit. Well, well, well, looked like there were a few members of his class in here, even good 'ol baseball boy. He walked up to the table with a grin carrying his tray.

"Well me mates," Dean said as a way of greeting, "Ye wouldna mind lettin me sit here would ya? And you Jay, no hard feelin's about in class eh, it's always good to have a fun little argument, yer pretty damn good with yer words."

He then sat down before any of them really had a chance to reply and took a bite out of the sandwich he had grabbed.

Bing!

Morning fans! So, today we finally begin my first week here at Amaranth Institute! I'm so excited, how about you?"

-----

Di had not expected such a strong reaction. At least, not in her first interview. Why was... She checked her notes. Ah. Oops.

"Oh! Wait a sec, that was a question for someone at my old school! I got my notes mixed up. Sorry!" She bopped herself on the head. "But your passion is so inspirational! I think I'll put this up anyways..."

And then the boys showed up...

-----

"Ok, I'm home now. What an exhausting day, you guys! I got to meet my new teacher, and my classmates, and explore the grounds, and I can say for sure this year is going to be super super! You'll see their introduction speeches in a second. Or, you would, but unfortunately there were some problems with the footage I got, and some things didn't quite make it in..."

-----

Bill had retreated under his desk, wincing at the volume Diana's lungs were apparently capable of reaching. and trying not to sit in any gum. The girl in question had long ago forsaken coherency and had started spewing swear words and insults at the unfortunate computer Bill was currently situated beneath. In fact, she had now moved past mere swear words, and sailed right on into long strings of gibberish that somehow made the listener feel dirty just hearing them.

She had not taken learning that a large chunk of her film had mysteriously been corrupted inside her camera well. Some parts were fine, at least, but others were simply showing blank screens. Once it was confirmed there was a problem, Bill had wisely dived for cover, in case Di started throwing things.

He just hoped she didn't break his computer.

-----

"But I think we got all the students introducing themselves! And don't worry, I'll take super special care of my camera tomorrow, so you'll get to meet my teacher then. She's so intense! You'll love her. Now, on to my classmates, and keep an eye out for me, too!"

-----

Diana frowned. A half naked guy had just wandered into her cameras view. It was a good fanservice shot, but it didn't flow right, especially after Adeline/Sue's speech. It was like someone pulling faces in the background of Live TV. So unprofessional! Hmph! Hm, maybe is she moved her camera, switched to a different viewing angle, she could make it look like a new scene in the edit?

... And maybe get one or two close ups of that chest while she was there...

Plus Adeline had fallen over! Funny, but not dramatic enough. It might even hurt the poor girl's political campaign! Di did owe her for getting her questions mixed up. Surpressing the footage (for now) was only right!

She got to her feet and walked over to the camera, only partially noticing the man who wasn't blindly ruining her interview, and fiddled around with various settings and angles, oblivious to the world...

-----

"How did you guys like them? Some real interesting characters in there, huh? I hope you liked mine too! Well, unfortunatly, a bit after that, we had to leave homeroom early because of an electrical fault in the wiring of the lights..."

-----

"Is that why you phoned me in the middle of *my* homeroom? I had to polish the teaches shade collection! It took me hours!"

"I said I was sorry..." Di had the decency to look embarrassed and just a hint ashamed as she tried to focus on editing what footage her camera had actually managed to record. "Now come on, we've still got film problems. See here? It looks like this guy is literally teleporting off his desk! What's wrong with my cameraaaa..."

-----

"But afterwards I managed to find some classmates at the schools field of honour!"

-----

And then! Bright red flash! Sword! Ninja squirrel!

Diana stared up from her camera for a long moment, then turned to Sean as Kohana limped away.

"Um. What just happened?"
