Can someone help me sum up why we enjoy watching this show much. You know, how we enjoy it beyond a "well made kids show" and "enjoying it ironically" etc. 'cause I'm having a hard time explaining to some of my friends.

I'd say part of it is because it helps us feel happy even when the rest of the world seems determined to bring us down.

I liked how that Calvin & Hobbes comic that someone posted summed it up. But a friend pointed out, that that alone isn't necessarily enough to explain the amount of devotion and worship fans seem to have for the show.

But hey, maybe it's just that and I'm letting my over-analyzing friend make me over-analyze it.

It has well developed and relatable characters, a good sense of humor, a charming environment, silly faces, and an almost Simpsons-esque tendency to rapid-fire little hidden references at you.

To this tack, we're all probably over-relating to it because we clearly like it, but culturally shouldn't, so our super-ego assuages our ego by convincing us that we enjoy it more so that it's worthwhile enough to let us continue embarrassing ourselves with it without sacrificing our self-image.

Or maybe it's just because it's good and also popular and popularity takes on a life of its own. When was the last time 'that thing everyone was obsessed with' was actually as good as promised anyway?
