And to answer rpg's question; individual pro-life folks are so because they don't understand that their are a variety of reasons someone might need to have an abortion, like, for example purely medical, life saving reasons that almost no one would object to. They also don't understand that the form the legislation they support takes is a violation of basic womens rights.

Like, imagine having to induce labor early to save the mother's life and suddenly she's subject to what amounts to a murder investigation.

Then of course there's the whole birth control issue which is freaking nuts. Do you know there is literally a realativly painless implant that prevents pregnancy 100% guaranteed? Why someone who is anti-abortion wouldn't want that covered by every health plan ever is totally beyond me.

Basically, they're against it because it doesn't let them punish women for having sex, which is what being "pro-life" has always really been about regardless.

lolwut? An IUD prevents pregnancy by killing or weakening sperm before they ever even get near an egg. It's less of an "early abortion" than even the morning-after pill that keeps the fertilized egg from adhering to the uterine wall (something the female body does naturally all the time on its own, of course).

Ask them how they feel about a woman having their tubes tied or a man having a vasectomy. If they don't care about the second one they are a straight up misogynist.

I'm not sure this changes my personal stance on abortion, but it's become far more clear that there's nobody involved in these laws that actually cares about human rights or has any interest in the well being of the people their laws will effect.

I really sincerely hope that republicans AREN'T doing this for "the baaaabies." If they're doing it for the little fetus things, then that means they must have some understanding of why an abortion is often an extremely traumatic experience and that what they're primarily doing is exacerbating or prompting this trauma in women. Which can and should be considered torture.

I would like it if this is just old men going "yo fuck women let's make shit harder for them" without even the faintest understanding of what it is like to undergo an abortion and the psychological implications of the bill they're passing. Because I already know that setting the clock back on women's rights is what gets them all hot and bothered, their ancient pallid cocks standing upright, that's old hat by now. But if they really care about the babies, then they must have some awareness that they're saying "MAYBE WE CAN STOP SOME ABORTIONS BY TORTURING WOMEN." Which is deeply unsettling.

So yeah, without even getting into the endoscopic ultrasounds, anyone who supports these measures supports the torture of law abiding US citizens.
