Not a big magical girl person, but I did like Madoka (I like Shaft in general, that had something to do with it) and all peoples are required by anime law to like Cardcaptor Sakura.

Princess Tutu is pretty good. Cliche motivations that slowly change over the course of the series and her evil rival has Erik Satie's Gymnopedie no. 1 as a theme.

My favorite will always be the girls from Akahori Gedou Hour Rabuge. Love Pheromone is a duo of High Science is Equivalent to Magic girls on a mission to fight crime while also trying to aspire to a successful career in Japanese Duet Comedy. Gedou Otome Tai is a team of five sisters, who enter a contract with a demon to avenge their parent's deaths at the hands of the forces of good and sow discord and reap terror upon the world of man.

Both are incredibly good at what they do, but neither are particularly successful.

I am also fond of Gum from Jet Set Radio, because as Guitar Vader says, "She's a magical girl."

Was about to post Ahiru/Duck as well. She's adorable.

The only other magical girl series I ever recall having any exposure to is the crap WB dub of Cardcaptor Sakura. I need to find a place to catch the original series sometime.

Actually, Nanoha Takamachi is also required to be liked the minute you find her otherwise she befriends you with magical wave motion cannons. O_O
