but the trans lady...I wouldn't say the behavior is purely transphobia, think there's also supposed to be some crappy attempt at squick having the older woman be very open with her advances - being Japan, with the whole social stigma with men expecting women to be submissive and the "can't get married by 25, won't get married ever" thing...

While the social stigma of a strong woman may somewhat apply, the line-up with transphobia is extremely obvious.

Transwomen specifically are stereotyped as tricksters and sexual predators. Its not an uncommon for people to believe that we go through what we do for the sole purpose of sleeping with as many men as we can without our "victims" knowing anything about it. At least not until we're done with them.

We are also widely considered to be disgusting. "Tranny" is used very often to make something sound more gross than it already is. A specific example I can offer is from an episode of My Name is Earl in which Earl and his brother are licking the window of a police car that separates detainees from the officer. The officer warns them not to do that as he had a "hep C tranny hooker" do that earlier. Because, you know, our hep C is worse than your hep C.

So the message sent in that scene of the game is that innocent guys combing the beach for babes were approached by a disgusting, predatory woman-who's-not-really-a-woman.

That alone is enough for me to boycott ATLUS specifically.

That's the issue though. Atlus fundamentally believes that what they're portraying is correct and mature, and advertises themselves as such. The fact that they're getting away with whatever they're doing* is the problem.

*Liz: Show videos or screenshots of the parts of the games that demonstrate these things. Don't just tell us that the main characters want to beat up a gay character, show us the video. You've scratched the surface of the content, but it's not a synopsis of what's there, you've shown almost nothing from what they're advertising. You've told what they're advertising, but being able to see for yourself something is much more effective than being told about it.

If "heterosexual males" automatically translates to "assholes" then I don't see how it's any more oppressive of them to go "transsexuals" = "sexual predators".

It really is important to note for general awareness that trans issues are not homosexual issues nor vice versa. Sure, there is overlap, but sexual preference and gender identity are two entirely different ballgames.

To back this up: Look at any medium that has shown a M->F transgender. It's not in a positive light.

I'm tired, and not coming up with specific cases, but I'm sure the general culture-memory can come up with something to fill the gap in for you, especially if I say to think about drag queens. And people who have a "surprise" hidden away to find when you take them back to bed. That mentality continues down onto transgender people.

Or, specific case of a different bias: Look at how The IT Crowd treated the transgender woman who the boss dated at one point. They made this big point of how she was a slob, drank beer and ate pizza in bed, went to soccer games, and was essentially the stereotypical dude.

It kind of defeats the purpose don't you think. I mean, the entire point of the boycott is the content of the games. Buying the games used or otherwise kind of concedes that you aren't really against the content.
