Surprised nobody els has posted in this thread since.
The movie's been out for about a week now, and I saw it. It was pretty great. |

Didn't want to double post, but I saw it opening day, first showing at the local theater. It was pretty much exactly what I was hoping for: a lot of fun, with lots of fun references that don't feel like they're pandering or leading too much of the movie. Fun characters, decent plot, a few jokes that fall flat but others that had me cracking up. Even had a couple really good tearjerker moments. Not a perfect movie, no, but a very good one that I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys a quality animated film.

Just saw it today and thing that stuck most in my mind, best ending credits I have ever seen for a movie.
Also loved the use of the one true code

I watched it with a friend last friday and, there were a ton of little things I noticed <3. Even though the friend I watched it with didn't get a LOT of those small things, she was laughing a lot ^^. Also, the movie was pretty nice :3

Great movie, I loved how cameo's weren't shoved in our face in the whole manner of "HEY LOOK AT WHAT WE CAN AFFORD TO HAVE IN OUR MOVIE". They handled it well by making the facetime inversely proportional to their popularity. A lot of great cinematic and storytelling power going through it, I'm just kinda irked that I could see the "X is now a princess via varying definitions of magic" trope incoming like a meteor.
And the pre-movie short was aces for it's simplicity and subtlety in a time where over-the-top special effects are the staple of entertainment. |

Actually now that I think about it Disney has beaten SEGA's quality record by managing to not ruin Modern Sonic within the single minute that he was on screen. Clearly they need to buy Sonic Team.

You're a few games too late for that sentiment to be fully true anymore.

but there are two things that did annoy me personally. First is the whole, suddenly its a democracy. This initially didn't bug me because I was like, ok I guess she is just setting up a way to choose a new leader ok. Then she went, "but I'm still in charge", then why the hell didn't you just keep calling yourself a princess. No one says you cant be a princess and a racer, hell the game designed you with the intent of you being both. Second is, the finish line reset the world, why exactly? And shouldn't that mean she isn't glitched anymore. It was the only time the rules set within the universe caused me to scratch my head. These are minor though. They didn't upset me or ruin the movie. Really its more moments of confusing that hurt my immersion.

I didn't mind the finish line reset, personally; it made sense to me. The finish line is, after all, the most important goal in a racing game, and once she crosses it, she can't be ignored as a part of the game. King Candy made it sound like if she had really just been a left out glitch character, her role would have been invented, but since she's already got a role in the game in place for her, she'd just get popped back into place. Once the finish line reads her data, it registers that she's been broken, it has to do a major overhaul to fix the oversight of a removed character, resetting things to their proper arrangement to make sure. What, that wasn't all immediately obvious to you? Come on!
I ignored the whole "not a princess, a democracy!" as more little kid banter along the lines of the previous "I will execute everyone!" lines, myself. But I had a little trouble believing that, if she kept her glitch powers in the game proper, the owner of the arcade wouldn't notice and have the game get looked at. But hey, I'm sure the kids are all excited to have a glitch that makes the game easier for them, so. |
