1) Everything in Soul Society is already made of nothing but spirit particles
2) Everything in Soul Society is already dead

I wonder if this translates better in Japanese. English has alot of issues with the idea of "life" beyond the binary living/non-living.

Everything in soul society has died, but is "alive". There is a cycle of souls and soul society is just a transition. Basically it works like this, you got your physical body and when that dies it remains as a material thing that gets recycled into the world and you transition to a spiritual body. When the spiritual body dies it is recycled into the spiritual world and you transition supposedly back to the material life as reincarnation.

He describes innanimate objects as "having life there", probably referring to the fact it has a form of self. A tree is still a tree. His bankai is animate armor that has lost its armor. Its more like a metaphysical concept than a physical object now. Likewise his body is "a vessel". Its just a shell for people to interact with. He cast aside his self so now there is just the will.

Essentially he has become to ghosts what ghosts are to normal people.

Like, that one dude broke a wall but then didn't activate their trap card 'cause his mom said it was time to go home. Then the guys who lost to shinigami got their arms cut off by King Mustache to show what a badass he is in case we forgot, and a masked wrestler beat up some dudes who haven't shown up for a while but he's gonna get beat up by Reiji and dragon kid.

I think that's about it.

New Chapter:

Wow now we literally have a character, who's power is the ability to get stronger when people cheer him on. Also a new Bankai as been shown! And it's one some of us have been waiting way too long to see after it was teased in the past.

You know what I loved about Gin, he was smart enough to lie about his bankai's power. Alot.

I know its a common shonen trope, but one I'm not too fond of. Its one of those ones thats based on the assumption the reader isn't smart enough to figure it out on their own.

Another minor gripe. Remember when it was commented that Ichigo's bankai was small, and that was incredibly odd, as in the only one like that. Now why do we keep seeing smaller ones?

i don't recall, cause that was a long time ago, but the issue with Ichigo's Bankai was that others thought it was too small or "too normal looking" ??

Also, this episode was a bunch of nothing, but it's cool to see Kensei stepping in to be serious from the get-go... for sure we won't see the end of this fight before the end of the year though...

Ichigo's shikai was a huge sword and his bankai was comparatively smaller, which I think is the issue.

Kensei's Shikai was already shown to be something small ( a knife ) so his bankai being bladed gauntlets doesn't seem that odd?
