I tried sending this to Shiney earlier. Her inbox, not surprisingly, was full. As such, I'll just type it now:
Extended apologies to Brian, Mashirosen, and Shiney. I understand why you're making this decision, perhaps even more because of a message Shiney sent me. I appreciate the forums. I appreciate the comic. As I told Shiney, we are your fans and you owe us nothing for that. The main reason this affected me was stupid personal problems that I let get involved with my reaction to the announcement. As such, I apologize again and admit that I was extremely wrong. I may disagree with this decision, but you're providing us with a free service not to mention tons of free entertainment. I'll join the quiet ones now.

I never even considered telling mods what do do, or to say that them that they had no right to do whatever they thought was right. I never thought of implying that this was a democracy.
But there's one thing I know: some things in the way the moratorium was announced I felt were insulting. This has nothing to do with the policy itself or its suddeness: it was a question of tone. But of course the administration of the forum can do anything it wants, but there's still has to be some kind of measure to it (I'm not saying this measure wasn't respected, since things are still running relatively smoothly). There's nothing insane or overly tyrannical to the moratorium, and personally I pretty much I agree with its content, but one thing I wouldn't stand would be feeling looked down on (read: "you do not matter bwahaha") in a place like this, a place that I frequent purely out of choice. To the point: flaunting a disregard for some users of a forum makes can make users leave faster than any policy or decision. This post can be disregarded as soon as the reader decides. But if I wasn't supposed to make it, what does it mean that I'm not banned? Dr EDIT: It's ironic than the tone of this post appears to be off. I guess that just demonstrates the point that not everything that is meant to be polite on the internet sounds that way. Last edited by Archbio; 07-14-2004 at 06:19 PM. |

I would merely like to say that I too saw the rumblings of flame wars appearing on the horizon with the political issues. With such things as people bringing up 'facts' that had already been argued against, and proven lacking in earlier threads, and other people who would accept that, "Yes, sir, you are right on every point," but would then continue to disagree with little factual basis. It's almost exactly like having a religious discussion. Now, I actually kind of enjoy those in less moderated areas, but, my point is this--good choice. It's going to get worse, and more partisan, and then stay that way for a while after the election.
I would suggest holding the moratorium on any partisan issues until about two months after whoever wins wins. However, despite all this, it took me this long to sit down and think, "You know, they're right. I've seen this and this and this." While reading the initial thread I happened to agree with Bob's and Fifth's point of view more than Shiney's. I also had the good sense to just shrug and accept it, but that's beside the point. Now that it's been more clearly defined as to what is being removed and why, it's much much easier to look past the annoyance at 'having a toy put in the closet', and see the reasons.

While I can't say much about the matter, seeing as I hardly ever post on the discussion boards and don't know what kinds of posts and threads would drive the mods to such a desicion, I would like to say something. It could be worse. Like the mods said, they could have nixed the entire board. I'm willing to bet that most of you think that they were just saying that to scare you, but I think that it was a very real possibility. I'm sure a few of you are a part of the BnG forums. If you are, then you should know about a rule that allows mods to lock or delete all serious posts. They didn't have a discussion board to begin with, and now the other stuff boards, which was the only place on their boards not dedicated to comics or video games, was purged of anything that didn't have to do with comics or video games. All I'm saying is that we should feel lucky that we still have a discussion board to post on, and that we should just wait a while, and I'm sure that the ban will be lifted or lessend.

Essentially, I have no problems with this. I don't give a damn what people think they are entitled to. Let me recap the long number of things that were forgotten:
1. This site is a private site dedicated to a webcomic. You are not the owner of this webcomic, you are a fan, or guest, to this site. 2. As a guest you are bound by courtesy to obey the rules of the site or you can leave. 3. Intentionally making a public defiant fight in a half-assed, attempt to look "cool" simply shows that your IQ is below your fucking shoe size. 4. What seems to be missed was that the original plan called for this whole forum to go. So be damn grateful they left it open, stop bitching, and please shut the fuck up about it! On a personal note, I appluad the decision. If I want to see half-assed arguments and half truths, I'll either watch the fucking political ads, read the fucking political spam, or go watch 9/11. I don't want to see it on an otherwise pleasant forum about one of my favorite comics. If you really have that hard of a time following the notion that many of us DON'T FUCKING CARE. Do me a favor and save me a headache and 200 IQ points from reading a tired protest over something that REALLY isn't that fucking important. |

Okay, Fifth's first post in this thread is exactly why I waited an hour after learning about it to post my response to Calvinball being shut down.
Being Canadian, the American Election has little effect on me, and as such I didn't take much notice to the Moratorium. I had no idea that it had riled (sp?) up so much emotion. However, I can understand both points. Being Politically minded, I would also be upset if a place to post my opinion was shot down. But I can also understand the Mod's decision. I would puke every time I heard the word Bush or Kerry if I had to listen to it for a full year rather than a month like in a Canadian Election. Sometimes enough is enough. In closing: That took some balls for Fiend to post. He is obviously very attached to this. And that last line (at the bottom of my sig) was exactly what my friend said when he put in his two weeks notice.

Raerlynn:
Congrats. Your post was nearly just as immature and close-minded as the one you were complaining about. *thumbs up*

Let's not turn this thread into a glorified flame war, thanks. I don't want to have to close it too.
