Default Gorillaz

Here we have the new album by the Gorillaz for those just tuning in the Gorillaz are a band that uses animation in everything they do from thier videos to live proformances. They consist of Noodle, Russle, 2d, and Murdoc as well as the unanimated Dan the Automater. Thier album before this was self titled but wasn't thier first and thier curren't seems pretty awesome. So far I have heard Kids with Guns, Demon Days, and thier current chart topping hit Feel Good Inc. Now go ahead and talk as you will on how you feel about them and thier new or old albums. Come on talk already.

I'll talk about them when noodle stops creeping me out, Murdoc stays in his damn pants, and russle shows some life in him, OTHER than the funky ghost. But 2D? he's ok. We can both stare into a blank white wall for hours.

Default The story of the Gorillaz

For your entertainment the story of the Gorillaz(animated not real):

The story of Gorillaz is a characteristally messy one. Saturday Boy Stu-Pot, a keyboard obsessive and nice kid dullard, is the star employee at Uncle Norm's Organ Emporium, on course to make regional manager. But then comes a Saturday to end all weeks (just like a Sunday, but with shopping).
Murdoc, with his nasty bad boy crew, ramraids the shop in a tatty Vauxhall Astra. His plan: to seize the synths and form a chart topping band with the booty. He drives... SMASH!... through the shop window and... SMASH!... into Stu-Pot's head, fracturing his eyeball. Result: 30,000 hours of community service for Murdoc, plus 10 hours every week of caring for the vegetabilised Stu-Pot.

Soon, Murdoc's rotten driving skills again force life to take a different turn. While attempting a 360 doughnut spin in Nottingham's Tesco carpark, he catapults Stu-Pot through the windscreen and into a kerb. Stu-Pot's other eye is fractured, his mind is revived and he stands a young, black eyed god, with hedgehog hair and a vacant stare. Not only that, but his synth playing takes a serious turn for the weird.

Perfect pop material. Stu-Pot is renamed 2D (because he's got two dents in his head). Now Murdoc needs a drummer.

Rewind a few years. In New York State, Russel, a middle-class kid, is forced out of his posh private school due to his being possessed by a demon. He lies in a coma for four years, until an elaborate exorcism sets him free. Russel joins Brooklyn High, where he falls in with a group of talented street musicians, rappers and DJs. Hip-Hop saves his soul. For a time. A random drive-by shooting kills all of his friends and as Russel, the lone survivor, lies in a state of shock, the spirits of his chums invade his body, turning Russel's eyes a spooky white and giving him amazing drumming, rapping and general hip-hop skills.

His parents move him to England, where they hope he'll have the chance of a quieter life. They hadn't reckoned on Murdoc, who tracks Russel down in a Soho Rap Record Store. Now, all the fledgling group need is a guitarist. They place an ad in the NME. The day the ad is published, a Fed-Ex'd freight container is delivered to their door. Out jumps a small Japanese person carrying a Les Paul. She jabbers at them incomprehensibly, before launching into a riff to end all riffs, rounding it off with a hi-karate jump. The boys are speechless. Noodle has one word for them. It is Noodle.

Gorillaz are born, and signed amidst the mayhem of their very first gig. Such is the way legends are created.

Sad to say Dan the Automator left the project, but I think D.J. Dangermouse did an awesome job with the new one.

I have Gorrillaz
G-sides
Laika come home
and
Demon days.

I'm not a huge Gorillaz fan, but I liked Del The Funky Homosapien's run with them. Of course, Del is like Jesus to rap, so its no suprise really. I did find Clint Eastwood amazingly catchy.

Gorillaz; Interesting, infectious, quite nessecerily odd. An origonal sound and style, that is very much needed in, not just music, but entertainment-media in general.

Their spectrum is wide, musically. They feature enough 'Rap' to reach almost anyone who is into hip-hop culture. The lyrics are angsty and depressing enough to draw in anyone from pop-punk to full on goth. They are different enough for the alt. or indie kids to find them appealing... and they are good enough to find their way into the hearts of pop-centric fans. The animation portion is... campy, in a way. But its dark, and entertaining, and really adds to the music.

Personally, I'm not a HUGE fan. Seems some of their subject matter doesn't appeal to me, or just flat-out turns me away from it, but they definatly have a good sound. I like clinteastwood, and the new single on demon days (windmill something?)

As far as the Gorillaz go, I ahve only heard their new album (demon days) but for some time one of my close friends has been telling me how grand and wonderful they are, and since they were constructed from the very confines of the band Blur, I decided to listen to them. Let me tell you, the lyrics I will admit I am not to fond of, the voices are kinda dull and the singer sounds like hes singing because he has nothing else to do.

But the beats! Oh my the bass and guitar is awshum and they make me want to listen forever (cd player broke so I can't, always have the computer though).

The Gorillaz are a very good band but the singer kinda drags them down (sorry if I offend any hardcore Gorillaz fanz, but an opinion is an opinion)

Not to get off topic, but another good band that you mgiht want to tune into (if you already havent) is System of a Down and also Linkin Park...two very fine bands that are probably the greatest ever

That'd be Feel Good, Inc.

Anyways, I've always enjoyed Gorillaz. Interesting fact! Gorillaz is actually a side project of Damon Albarn, frontman of Blur. He plays the part of 2D, supplying the vocals.

I'm an avid fan, I only have Gorillaz and Demon Days but I've listened to the other CD. I think it's kinda cool that Russel has all his friends inside him....couldn't he have a party by himself?....hmm....
