Hey, the more info the better. ^^

Scratching post - check
It has two platforms and a little cave, and it's high enough for him to sit and look out the window.

Cat toys - check
One is a furry ball on a rod and string, then there's a plush mouse on a rubber band and a weird plastic bow no one knows what to do with, and finally three plastic balls with little bells inside. The latter will probably prove to be a grave mistake before long.

Dishes - check. Litterbox - no check, will buy tomorrow. Some food - check. Should be alright for starters.

As soon as he's got used to the new surroundings I'll see if I can snap some pictures.

Mew. ==

Regarding tooth brushing; it's important that you do actually use cat toothpaste. Cats can't spit like we can, so they end up swallowing the flouride in normal toothpaste. Cat toothpaste is enzymatic, so even rubbing on their teeth helps. You can actually get toothbrushes that slip over your finger.

When they're young, you want to get them used to having your hands around their paws and in their mouth. As it was stated, this helps make things like brushing their teeth, and clipping their nails a lot easier. Try to spend a little bit every day just working their paws and rubbing their teeth a bit. The teeth are usually easy; most cats will come up and rub their teeth on your fingers to clean them.

Cool, thanks.

On a sidenote, I don't know how he will approach them, but I'm having a lot of fun with the cat toys already.

Have you seen this lately?

Also, remember never to let them eat off the table. They will come to expect it. Make sure they're never allowed on.

Hooray, the kat has arrived! He may or may not be currently exploring my bedroom. I know he was a minute ago, but, well. Stupid black ninja kitty.

(About that: my aunt said he couldn't climb stairs yet. The fact that my bedroom is upstairs leads me to believe that my aunt is a liar. Her story about the birds and the bees probably wasn't true either. Humph.)

I'll have to borrow a camera, but I'll see to it that I can put up pictures of the little guy ASAP. ==
(Edit: My cousin took some one or two days ago and will email them to me within hou- days. Probably.)

I HEART KITTIES. As far as getting them used to your fingers in their mouths when they are young, the same applies to water for many breeds, believe it or not. If you want to not have a hellish time bathing the cat later on, make sure you help it to like getting wet and playing in the tub or wherever. Worked for my dad!

My dad just adoped a stray himself. Hell, he hasn't even picked a name for it you. It's needing to be declawed (It'll be an indoor cat) as you can see from the pic.

Oh, and I've got this to add about declawing: Just cause it has no front claws doesn't stop the instient. My cat still does that to the corners of the chairs we use, and has managed to tear up both of the front corners of said chairs.

Cats are truly awesome. Sadly, I've not got much advice that hasn't already been given, but I'll try to think up a few helpful things...

I truly abhor the thought of removing all of cat's claws. A cat isn't a cat anymore unless it can wreak some havoc on the unsuspecting masses. Plus free pest control is always nice. That being said, if yours will be an indoor kitty and you're worried about it harming you or your prized possesions, you should indeed consider having the front claws removed - while it's still not necessarily the nicest thing to do to Kitty, he won't really be traumatized, as he prolly won't need those front claws outside of a pitched battle with something wild - which should probably be avoided if possible. A half-declawed kitty can still climb, catch pests, and draw the blood of its owner (as I know from personal experience), without the added risk to your furniture.

Indoor cats absolutely must be exercised. Obesity is just as bad for kitty as it is for you. Ours, though technically an indoor cat, has a chain he can go on. I doubt he needs it anymore - he's fled many times, and always returns safe and unharmed - but a chain would be advisable until he understands that things 100 times his size & made of metal are not to be tampered with. I will likely never forget the day our cat got into the driveway and tried to stare down our mom's car as she pulled in. She was going slow anyway, and she did indeed see him and stop, but on the highway drivers are a little less pet-friendly.

And finally, forget everything you ever heard about how cats can't be taught tricks. our cat knows his name quite well, and if you call him he'll come. He knows what he is and isn't allowed to do, can get toys out of his little basket, and actually taught us a little trick - he "sharpens" his nonexistent claws on our outside screen door when he wants to go on his chain.
