IGNORE ME!
|
"Well Karnok it appears I have bested thee," Throwing his index finger into the upper-left corner from Karnok's perspective, "I have you at the diagonal and the row. Your fate was sealed when I took the center. As I said, Fate decides everything from the beginning. It seems our end is inconsequential to such a harsh mistress." His smile begins to fade, as his original sullen demeanor returns in full force, he lowers his feet towards Karnok destroying their game in the process. "Shall we catch up to the group or look into the guild?" His voice seemed to emenate apathy as he spoke.

Karnok looks at the ruined board and taps his pipe out on the ground. Standing slowly he nods slowly again. "Da park where we be needin ta be." Karnok turns and asks a nearby gaurd where the central park and gets directions to it. "Well little furry man, We best be goin now." Karnok strides off to the park with the smaller Howl in toe. He arrives to see the group muling around. The pit fighter was pacing irritably.

Still not dark enough, and still no sign of Trevor.
Jen yawned and lie on his back, tucking an arm behind his head. Boooooored. With his free hand in the air he waved his fingers about, summoning little strings of light from the tips of them and playing with them. Around in circles, back and forth, looping this way and that he did... just trying to amuse himself. Like with every job a million things could happen, and he'd tried to plan for every contingency... but he'd had enough of planning for now. The energy strings looped off one finger and floated free in the air, drifting off to the side. Jen just watched it go lazily, soaring towards its freedom until it faded into nonexistance... which seemed like all he did, all his life... drift away into nonexistance... A dangerous train of thought. He sat up with a start and stretched, trying to keep his mind alert. Okay, that's enough of that... back to spying... With another yawn he crossed his legs, and folded his arms over again, running yet another check of the gaurds' paths and keeping his eyes open for his opportunity. I hate this part. |

A man all wrapped up in several layers of thick clothing came up to the adventurers. His entire form was covered in anywhere from three to seven layers at any given point, save his eyes. His muffled voice said, "You're... Renetta Clifford, correct?"
"Yes, who are you?" "I'm just a guy, you don't know me and probably don't need to. But I tried to find you as soon as I could. I know something you might find valueble, but it looked like someone else tried to sell that info to you. He also didn't come out too well. So I figure it like this, I'll tell you part of the info, and if you think the rest is worth anything, you can pay me for it." He said, squeamishly. "Trevor's been hired to do a job soon. In less than half an hour, in fact. That much I can give for free. So, do you think the who and where would be worth, say, five gold pieces? Well, since you're cute, I guess I can go as low as four."

"Ugh. Not this again!"
"Not this again," Renetta said with a sigh. She worked out an equation inside her head, spilling it out loud as she thought up things. "Okay, I was robbed by some ass on the street so I don't have five or four coins, regardless of how much skin I show you. I'm kinda short of the price right now. Trevor's an assassin so this job might be an assassination. I could earn the money in protection for my brother's target but the only proof I have of an attempt is a creepy guy who's probably also a criminal considering how he's hiding his whole body, so in a nutshell, I can't see it working...unless..."
Renetta's brain went overtime to keep up, which was pretty easy since she was hungry, and thinking was easier when it was time for a meal. "I get this information now on good faith and offer my services to the target for free based on the concept that I don't get paid if the assassin never comes. On one side of the coin, my brother comes, I save the target, and get the money to pay you. On the other side, he doesn't come and your information is false and thus has no value to begin with which means I shouldn't pay for it in the first place." She knew she was sounding like her mother more by the second, but this was ridiculous. Two guys who wouldn't reveal who they were in one day, both expecting payment for information and both claiming to know about her brother, not to mention that they both knew who she was and probably who all her allies were. Renetta wasn't sure about the others, but she was getting pissed off and use of her weapon to get things done was starting to sound like a good idea as the minutes drifted on. |

The man stood there and sighed. "Well, I'm afraid I can't afford to stay in town much longer nor inform you how to reach me, so if you won't pay for it now, I'll just give it to you. Think I'm really a nice guy or just an ass who doesn't want anyone else to collect on the money, whatever you want, but here's the word on the street. Senator Roshkin is here on 'official business.' You know, the kind where he spends five minutes signing things and the rest of the time with his girl in town. Well, he apparently pushed someone the wrong way, and thats why Trevor is after him. The only place that he wouldn't be in a phalanx of over-equipped guards is when he's doing 'stuff' with his girl in the palace courtyard. So thats where Trevor is going to strike, since not only would that be a humiliating way to die, but anywhere else would be stupid. I need to be on my way, so good luck finding him. If he kills you, well, that is his job." The guy, like the rest of the people the group met today, seemed to just walk off and get lost in the crowd.

Karnok snorts at the mans retreating form. The loud sound causes a few passersby to jump and glance. "Why be we carin bout da stupid human senator?" Karnok says still watching where the man had disappeared. "If we be needin dis Trevor man, we should be jus gettin him afta he do his ting. If we not be needin him we should jus be waitin here." Karnok turns to Renetta. "He be bein important to da cause?" Karnok begins to refill his pipe as he waits for Renetta's response.

Jen sat up sharply.
Trevor! Pulling out his telescope, he peered through it and saw a shape moving towards the palace, draped in some sort of thin cloak and moving fast. Looking further north, he saw the unlucky Senator in the courtyard, with his girl. Jen closed the telescope and grinned, feeling his heart pumping blood and adrenaline throughout his body. Excellent! He stood then and leapt down the side of the building, landing with a roll in the snow. Effortlessly he sprung up to his feet and rushed to the side of the palace, aiming for the wall. As he ran a few new ideas sprang to mind, a side-effect of his apparent ADD... perhaps impersonating a gaurd now, or using trickery to distract them... Sometimes he could play off the rampant thinking as jovial energy, but sometimes it was a curse. Right now, he needed to remember the main plan, and stick to it. Counting off the seconds, he rushed up to the wall and somersaulted to a stop, just in front of a water drain grate. With ease he picked the latch and crawled inside, shutting it closed again behind him and taking stock of the courtyard, concealed in shadow. In the darkness he could see a few figures moving about... gaurds, and a few animals, but his vision centered on the Senator and his woman. No doubt Trevor would be coming soon, and Jen had every assurance that he'd not been seen. Swiftly he skittered off towards the palace main, and moved to enter... "No time to explain. Let's hurry!"
"It can't just be coincidence that Trevor is here and the altar is destined to appear at some point soon. And if you can't accept that, then you can stay here and wait for it, 'cause I'm not."
Renetta then broke off and began running in a full sprint, the chilly wind blasting her full in the face until tears ran along her cheeks, her anxiety lending her speed. Fuck the guild. Trevor's always been prompt and I'm not going to lose my chance to talk to him. I need to be there immediately if not sooner. Brother... Renetta's latest tears began to come from her loneliness built up from so long ago. ...Wait for me. I'm coming! The palace was still being constructed when Richard took her away, but it was coming along enough back then that she knew what to look for. She inspected her equipment quickly while running. She didn't want to have to fight her brother, but it probably wasn't avoidable. She hoped that Richard's training would give her the ability to win this time around. |
