Mafia: NPF edition - Page 2

It was a normal night on the streets of NPF. The usual meeting of chaotic forces at the gate was a regular thing. However, Kurosen stood on a podium and spoke to the group.

"There are 5 among us, that have been banned, and somehow have come back. Not only that, they captured one of the ban sticks. We would have re-banned them by now, but they are in disguise. So we are leaving it up to you people. Each day, you may vote for somebody to be banned, someone who you think is one of the banned ones. We can only find out if this is true by banning them, and we will not un-ban innocents until this whole matter has been resolved."

Kurosen gestured out to the gate. Standing there was "Mauve Mage" (The Wizard Who Did It, NPF Aligned) looking inside regretfully.

"She (he) was the first of many potential victims, so we need to find these people. Do it, for NPF!"

And Kurosen disappeared, to leave the group to ponder who were the banned ones.

DAY 1 STARTS NOW! 13 to Lynch. No current Deadline.

Alright, I can draw only one conclusion from Twiddy's first night demise. At least on of the Mafia people have played this before. A bunch of mafia newbies wouldn't know that Twiddy was a threat, unless they were told that he was. It's not much help, but it's a start, so now I shall wait to see how things unfold.

I wouldn't be too quick to jump to any great conclusion just yet. It's possible but its also possible to have been random. It's also possible we have a lurker. I have no idea why someone would bother reading these threads because generally its not all that entertaining. However, it is possible that we could be dealing with people that have watched the games from afar and never joined.

Also, its not wise to assume people that have never played here have never played. This isn't an exclusive game in that respect. Along that same line of reasoning is that just because a person has never played doesn't make them a horrible player. Nor does it guarantee they will slip up and make stupid mistakes, just like being a mafia vet doesn't mean they won't make mistakes. (Cmp in last game anyone?)

I know some people that would go back and read them just to prepare themselves, but all I was really trying to do was get some talking started. Day one can be a dangerous and confusing time for the town, and so you gotta get some leads to build on. The best way of doing that, in my opinion, is is throwing around not "FoS"es, but ideas.

Well it wouldn't be much of a converstation starter if someone didn't take an opposing stance now would it? Sometimes you just need a devil's advocate.

Also, Neyo, I was mafia in the last game and we killed off Grthwllms, a newbie, because we didn't want people to think we were a bunch of vets, which we were. So, the mafia could also be newbies who want to kill a vet. You can't really get anywhere with that.

But you do bring up a really good point with that last mafia group doing the opposite of what you'd expect.

We have 5 mafia.

We have 1 Vigilante.

We have 2 Cults.

We have one SK.

One PO

We have one BG.

We have an indefinite amount and kind of secret roles.

So, we're SURE there are 7 to 8 threats to the town (Cult may have hit mafia or SK). We've 24 players left. 1 out of every 3 players will be a threat.

Formalities have no point here and deciphering ANYTHING off what we have here seems kind of useless. I know this may be dangerous thought, but even IF we hit a townie, you can optimistically think that we're just getting closer to mafia and getting the game on a roll so that we can get into the REAL playing sooner than later.

FOS bears no meaning at this point, for there is no real suspicion that anyone can justify.

I'll Vote: Sithdarth just for being so anti game starting as he was and to get things REALLY moving. (Yes, I know he claimed to be playing the Devil's Advocate)

I know you are an aggressive player but damn that was fast. Also, with so many threats one would think in this game more than any other every townie counts. Although with the greater number of anti-town roles you do have a better chance of hitting an anti-town role.

As for the devil's advocate thing how was I supposed to respond to that post? I mean if we all just agreed with it right off the bat we'd be pretty much stuck with nothing to talk about. Also, even if we assumed there was at least one vet in the mafia it doesn't really help us at all for a few reasons. First, we don't no the number of vets that are mafia so if we just focused on vets for the moment some other only marginally suspicious activities from non-vet mafiates might go unnoticed. Second, a newb mafiate can be more dangerous than a vet mafiate as it seems if they do slip up any vet mafiates will axe them with a vote; see catlover in the last game. That's great for shifting focus off people at least for some of the less aggressive players and can make getting a majority vote harder. Of course that's all assuming the initial assumption was correct.

Of course all points are now moot because we are now actually discussing things in a logical framework that would lead somewhere. For instance, you think I'm mafiate because you precieved me attempting to stall the game; you of course also assuming me to be a strong player(or so I assume). However, one might also assume that given my assumed apptitude I'd no better than to play that card, but all that's just going to go in circles. So we'll leave this as a point against me.

Now I could assume that your hasty vote is to get someone who has proven himself to be adept at hiding himself well to expose himself. After all I did do a rather decent job convincing even the Mafiate I was of great importance to the town in the last game despite my role. So yes I'm probably a person to keep and eye on as I have demonstrated potential to be dangerous. Has have you Mesden which you yourself freely admit.

Although, that vote could also be a mafiate attempt to get a precieved strong player out of the game without wasting a night action. After all if anyone else with a townie night role happens to think I'd be worth having around then I might be a hard target to get at. Frankly I'd rather not be protected from night hits but its not up to me in any case.

All that said and done I think my initial statement had the desired effect in that we actually have somewhere to go now. As well as firmer logical footing to proceed from and thereby a better chance of finding an actual threat. I stand by my previous actions and offer this last exchange of proof of its validity and worth.
