I'm going to do what I always do with the new video game systems: wait with a Zen-like patientce for about a year/year and a half, until there are used ones available that are about half of the price of buying the systems new and I know for sure that there are a number of good games that are out. It's served me well in the past, and considering that I want (OK, being honest to myself, NEED) to get both a PS3 and a Wii, saving money is a big deal. That's major bucks, especially for someone who'll be putting himself through graduate school.

There are advantages to that method, notasfatasmike, but the difference is you won't be experiencing the new generation with everyone else. Basically--I can watch all the Nickelodeon shows I never saw when I was a kid and "catch up," but I won't be seeing them in the weekly context I would've back then, I won't be talking about it with other kids who were fans too, and I essentially will put a much more critical eye on it all, rather than just "growing up" with it.

So, yeah, you can play the Wii when it's past its prime (if it does go pas it, that is), but I don't think it'll feel the same. You've got to seize those moments, man, generations, technologies, are ephemeral, and as much as I'd like to believe that you can just bask with all the time in the world, you really can't if you want to be there, "then."

I forgot about Wal Marts and stuff. Which I assumewill be the majority of sales for thesystems nationwide.

But what do I care? I was first in line to pre-order one! =P

The only problem with your theory is that I said I was going to wait a year, as opposed to four, which tends to be the life of any video game system. When I got my PS2, I got it well before many, many fun, well made games came out, including FFX and Katamari Damacy, to name 2 examples off the top of my head, so I got to "experience" those at the same time everyone else did; I just got my PS2 for a lot less money. Just because you don't buy the console OMG THE DAY IT COMES OUT doesn't mean that you're going to miss out on the entire life of the system. Why scramble and pay a whole bunch of extra money? I've got way too many hobbies to devote all of my money to video gaming.

Meh, that's my theory, anyway.

Where, I live, there is never any need to pre-order. There's like, less than thirty gamers within fifty miles of this town. And if each store gets eight consoles, and there are like three or four stores within fifty miles, I don't have to worry about it. At all. Although in order to be scientific about this, I need to concede to the possibility that I am just talking out of my ass here and I'll get reamed when I try to pick up a Wii. 50/50 at worst.

It'll still supposedly be for order online, which I'd ordinarly call fair enough. Except Ninty's called take-backs so many times on this GC-Zelda action, I can't see taking anything they say about it as a given. It's like come the fuck on guys, pull the fuckin' plug or quit jerking people around already.

I mean it's not like I'm sitting here with a TP-free Gamecube, but honestly, you'd think they could just throw that fuckin' bone to the people who actually have supported them over the last four years.

One of my friends just told me he bought stock in Nintendo solely because he's sure they're going to make a ton of money off the Wii. All your posts seem to be pointing to his idea being a pretty decent one.

Although he only bought 7 shares. I don't think that will be very helpful.

So who else reserved it? And did anyone actually reserve it with anything besides Zelda?
I was going to look forward to pre-order the Wii and be one of the first people to have the Wii, along with TLOZ:Twilight Princess, however, my dream of having it is going to be nothing but a lie. The reason is because I live here in Mexico, and therefore, I couldn't go to Gamestop or Toys R Us to make the pre-order.

However, not everything is lost for me. I can wait until the second shipment arrives, so until then I will keep saving my money and see if I get enough to buy the Wii and 2 games instead of just one.(I'm looking forward to buy Metroid Prime 3: Corruption because I'm a great Metroid fan)
