Sort of. The Ambassador-class starships had notably undergone some refits over the years, as the older Enterprise-C had some minor configuration differences from the other ships of its class that had appeared in TNG. The only reason that the class was never shown during the Dominion War and Borg encounters post-TNG was because the production team never bothered to make a CGI model of the class when they stopped using physical models.

The main reason there were so many Miranda- and Excelsior-class starships seen in the major fleet battles of DS9 was because it was just easier to copypasta one or two types of ships all over the place rather. As for the battle with the Borg in First Contact, none of the Starfleet vessels shown in that movie had ever been seen before (with the notable exception of the Defiant and the Millennium Falcon), and many were never seen again.

Frankly, the Miranda-class shouldn't have even been in service by the Dominion War and the Excelsiors should have been on the way out. So it's actually rather safe to assume that, among the many refits the existing Ambassadors underwent over the years, holodecks would have been among them, especially considering the size and power output of the vessels. I'd be willing to allow it, as well as the possibilities of holoemitters being installed in Sickbay.

Ugainus' character is interesting and is allowed, but will not have an official Starfleet rank for his position (think Leah Brahms). I'm sick and exhausted from "holiday cheer" (which, apparently, does not include caffeine) and don't feel like doing much of anything at the moment, but tomorrow I may at least go ahead and get the RP going.

We will start just as we are preparing to depart from Starbase 188. If there is any specific place you envision your character being at this particular point in time, PM me to let me know. I'll also be in contact with a couple of you to work out a scene of my own.

One thing and this may sound a bit nit picking but mostly I'm pointing it out because if gave me a laugh:

Ugainius' character is listed as five feet and 12 inches tall; which is really just 6 feet tall. Not big but its one of those "2am and I can't think straight" goofs.

Right. Which is why I always defer to GMs judgement anyways. I'm just what you would call a canonical nazi. :P

As to the ships in First Contact, those ships did technically exist. You hear a reference to the akira class vessels in DS9, and the other one you saw was a retrofitted Soyuz. THan of course came the defiants, sovereigns, and Galaxies.

The Ambassador, by canonical sense, was the least retrofitted class, alongside the Galaxy. It was the kirk time period's version of the Sovereign. It had all the best of federation technology, and aside from it's phasers, it was able to keep up long into the Galaxy's run. (I remember a book by a "Canon Writer", where an Ambassador actually whupped a galaxy).

But yeah.

Ignore me. I have too many books, too little life. :P (Owns the technical readouts to every federation vessel)

Isn't a retrofitted Soyuz just basically a Miranda, though? I mean, the Soyuz-class name was a writer's error, if I recall correctly.

But yeah, I never said the ships didn't exist, only that they hadn't been seen on screen up to that point, though on closer inspection there are some Nebulas and Mirandas (one of which was the old USS Bozeman, thus technically making it a Soyuz) as well as a couple poor little Oberths that had the unfortunate luck of winding up in the area.

Also, I believe the hayday of the Ambassador-class was pretty much in that span of time in between the days of Kirk and Picard, as the Excelsiors were the new kids on the block by the end of Kirk's era and the Ambassadors had largely gone out of style by the time Picard took command of the Enterprise-D.

Of course, much of this may have had to do with Starfleets policy at the time of sparingly building larger capital ships like those. For instance, only nine Galaxy-class ships had apparently been constructed by the time the Dominion came into the picture, at which point there appeared to be something of a mass-construction of Galaxies due to the sudden need for big, powerful, heavily-armed vessels. If Starfleet had also taken this approach to the Ambassador-class, they never would have had such a need to mass produce them at the time.

Meanwhile, I think there was simply just a whole bunch of Excelsiors around in Starfleet, as the size, speed, and armament of the class was precisely what the Federation felt best represented how they wanted their Starfleet to appear. "We don't want to be intimidating, but we can hold our own if we have to."

Anyway, I'm rambling on and speculation abounds. I could use some help finding out the maximum speed of the Ambassador-class, though.

According to the technical readout is can obtain a continual cruising speed of Warp 7, but can achieve warp 9.4 for a maximum of 12.5 hours before overloading it's core.

And I was wrong. It looks like they do have holodecks. They only ever went through two refits. One was a standard refit to keep up with technology. This added 3 holodecks to the ships, a main shuttlebay, 2 Type IX phaser banks, better living spaces, and an upgraded warp nacelle (giving it damn near the same speed capabilities as a Galaxy class vessel)

It went through one final refit to maintain effectiveness during the dominion war (it was still considered the fleet's "Heavy Cruiser", Sovereign's being considered the "Dreadnaught" of the fleet) . This refit upgraded it's phasar banks to the newer Type X, even though they were still forced to rely on Photon Torpedos(albeit they were the new pre-quantam photon torpedoes). They also added carpetting into the ship (being a war ship, it had bare amenities). They recieved updated graviton field generators and new primary and secondary computer cores. This was the greatest and last retrofit to ever been seen on these vessels.

Here's some extra specs if you want them:

Length: 526 meters
Width: 322 meters
Height: 128 meters
Weight: 3,700,00 metric tons
Cargo capacity: 42,500 metric tons

Phasar Banks: 8 Type X Phasers. 3 located on the the dorsal saucer section covering Forward, Starboard, and Port sides respectively. 1 more on the ventral portion of the saucer covers the Forward firing arc. 1 on each port nacelle covering the aft firing arc. 2 more after phaser banks on the aft side of saucer section, where connection begins with the rest of the ship.

Torpedo Launchers: 2 Torpedo Launchers just above the Deflector dish cover the forward firing arc. 1 Launcher placed in the back of the aft engineering section, just below the shuttlebay, covers the aft firing arc. No Port or Starboard arcs available.

Transporters: 9 Total

3 Personnel Transporter, 3 Cargo Transporters, 3 Emergency Transporters

Crew Compliment: 700 (200 officers, 500 enlisted + others)
Shuttlebay: Six Type 15 Shuttles, Four Type 6 Shuttles, 2 Type 10 Shuttles

Lifeboats: Aside from the escape options of shuttlecraft or transporters, the primary survival craft of the Ambassador class is the escape pod or lifeboat. Each Ambassador Class carries a total of 100 of the 8-person variants, which measures 5.6 meters tall and 6.2 meters along the edge of the triangle. Each Lifeboat can support a full compliment for 8 months, longer if the lifeboats connect together. All are equipped with navigational sensors, microthrusters, plus emergency subspace communication equipment.

The ability to transport 350 persons per hour to the ship via personnel transporters.
The availability of the 3 Type 6 shuttlecraft to be on hot-standby for immediate launch, with all additional shuttlecraft available for launch in an hours notice. Total transport capabilities of these craft vary due to differing classifications but an average load of 150 persons can be offloaded per hour from a standard orbit to an M Class planetary surface.

That is absolutely fantastic. Thanks. Memory Alpha was a bit sparse on a lot of the technical data on the Ambassador-class.
