I agree that it was clearly an unintentional remark that probably held no intent of racism, but the fact is, she said something that could be interpreted as racism on television, and that's something perfectly okay to discourage, which justifies a suspension, but by no means should a slip like that end someone's career as Al Sharpton seems to be suggesting that it should.

Which is a big point I think. To most parts of the world, Tiger Woods isn't a black guy, he's just a proficient golfer.
Sure, some people in europe might pick up on the possibly racist implications, but it's somehow blown out of proportion in the U.S. something that, judging from the information that spreads overseas, is not all too rare.

And about saying the wrong thing, a Swedish tv host, who was supposed to say a little line to cross over into the upcoming episode of "Lois & Clark", accidentally said the Swedish word for the female genitalia instead of the word for pocket. There was some outrage, but no lawsuits, and he is still working. The point is, humans make mistakes, and it seems a little over the top to not only fire someone, but burn and salt the earth, so to speak.

Yeah, but there's a little bit of a difference (exaggeration) between saying pussy instead of putty and saying Tiger Woods is an independent negro golfer rather than an independent african american golfer. They just seem to be two different kinds of mistakes.

Yeah, they're different, but essentially, they're both mistakes, and the fact that Woods laughed the lynch comment off kind of lowers the lynch comments severity in my opinion.

And about the African American part, I can't say it goes for most people, but people in my surroundings would probably leave out the African and just settle for Tiger Woods being American.

I was referring to the "nappy-headed hos" statement. Lynching has more violent connotations than an insult that insinuates that one has really untidy hair and isn't too selective in choosing one's sex partners. "Nappy-headed ho" is an insult that could apply to anyone of any descent, whereas lynching has a strong connotation towards past violence against people of African descent.

I dunno, I'd think it would be more the other way around, wherein "nappy-headed hos" is commenting specifically on the fact that they were all black women and insinuating disgustingly defamatory things about them versus using a term that really can apply to anyone.

Technically, anyone can be lynched. I won't disagree that there is an obvious racial association between lynching and black people and a suspension is hardly too harsh a punishment, but I honestly don't think it was specifically a comment intentionally relating Woods' skin color.

I'm told that Tiger Woods has publically said he isnt black. The Wiki page says that his dad was ~50% African American, among other things, and his mother has no African descent.
