Default Question: Why Do People In Movie Theaters Choose To Talk So Loud?

I have to admit, I'm not one for big fancy shindigs - I mean, at my high school prom I was thinking that it would be so much better if I could just have all my friends at my place with a pizza.

I mean, I go to see Casino Royale when it comes out. I planned to do a little shopping at the mall, pick up a new collared shirt, grab a video game or two - then I see that a James Bond movie was playing - and I was like "Dude, James Bond." It was the first Bond movie that I saw in theaters, and I was a little psyched. So I pay my $8 and get in to the flick, and I take that two hours as the defining moment of my movie watching career - don't watch movies with people.

I enjoy going to the theater. I like concerts. But... I mean - when someone sitting next to you is going over the lines with the on-screen characters? (Seriously; Daniel Craig looked at the screen and said 'Bond. James Bond.' And the guy beside me totally said it too.) And the two people sitting on the other side of the theater? Yeah, I can hear you. You're not whispering. I don't think anyone else wants to know about that E! interview that Daniel Craig and the chick who wasn't James Bond was on.

I mean, why do annoying people tend to be more annoying in a situation where it just becomes unbearable? I'm asking here - I just know that there doesn't seem to be anyone who particularly irks me at any moment other than when I'm in a crowd, trying to enjoy something, or some odd thing. Why is that?

Oh wow, you have no idea how it is in India though. I went there to visit my grandfather and we went to see a movie. When the movie started, at least 5 people near me all pulled out their cellphones and one of them started to call their friend to talk to them about how they were watching this new movie.

I mean seriously? You go to a movie only to look at your cellphone?

If you want to have a chat with your friend, or whatever, concerning the movie while it's rolling, take it at home. People who sit around and ruin it for everybody else while in the theatre should get thrown out.

It's because they make no distinction between the movie theatre and the comfort of their own home.

Or any other place, for that matter. Courtesy is overrated anyway.

There's a certain amount of chatter I don't mind during previews or commercials or before all of that starts. And whispering once in a while is fine during the movie, but actual talking or talking extra loud so the theatre can hear you is a no-no in my books.

And by no-no I mean I have no qualms telling them to shut the fuck up in front of everybody or throwing popcorn/my drink at them. They're usually pimply teenagers that need some straightening out anyway.

I just want to know why the people won't have their freaking kids sit down and shut the hell up FOR TWO WHOLE HOURS. Can't you as a parent in that entire time get them to behave for one minute?!

That's why going to see No Country For Old Men in the theater was so refreshing, no one brings along their annoying eight year old kids to a hard R ultraviolent film. And the annoying 14 year old middle schoolers can't get in either. Man, I never knew kids were that freaking hyper even at 14. I mean, RUNNING? You're supposed to stop running outside of sports at like the age of ten, maybe twelve tops. Freaking spazzes. At that point, the inanity of life is supposed to have worn them down so much, and their abstract thinking abilities is supposed to have developed enough, that they no longer run for the pure joy of movement. That's right. Maturity is only running with a goal in mind, and it's NEVER RUNNING AROUND A THEATER AND DANCING TO THE CRUDDY THEATER RADIO WHEN I'M TRYING TO WATCH THIS SHITTY JUMPER MOVIE, MAN, DOES IT SUCK, BUT YOU MAKE IT SUCK TEN TIMES WORSE.

Seriously, I never set foot in a movie theater until I was twelve. I probably could have prior to then, I was fairly mature, but for most people, they should probably just wait until then, too, unless it's an actual damn kid's film that I won't have to go see.

Yeah. I've never had a problem with talkers in any theater I go to. Maybe it's luck. aybe it's acoustics. Maybe it's because I actually focus on the movie instead of the theater. I don't know. I'm not a Scientographer.

Also, isn't this more of an off-topic thread? I mean, it's only really tangentally related to movies.

It's either out or totally loud and annoying making out with every single sound amplified by the echo of the theatre.

I don't know which one I prefer.
