We live in a culture that fosters ridiculous amounts of fear and seems hellbent on assuming the worst in everyone, when in reality, more than 99% of us are good, decent people.
I'd honestly rather live in a world where the 99% of us who are good, decent people didn't have to deal with overzealous PC bullshit, even if it let the 1% of assholes get away with a little bit more, than live in a world where our rights are clamped down on us to the point where good teachers and doctors and parents can no longer do a damned thing for fear of being sued. Frankly, we can't stop the <1% of society from committing crimes anyway. We might as well at least assume the best for the rest of us and let teachers, you know, hug children they teach and care about and let doctors treat illnesses and let parents be parents to their children, even out in public places.
