I'm of the opinion that the fourth arc is better than the first half of the show, but to each his own.

To be fair, I doubt she'll like it if episode three didn't make it for her. The climax in that one encapsulates the spirit of the series without overblowing it, like the following episodes do.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is a cheesy show, the difference being that it strives for the masculine side of cheesiness. If you cannot get into the mood to enjoy it I suggest you just don't struggle with it.

Fourth arc is my favorite. What I meant was that you don't really appreciate the first half till you've seen the second half. I actually didn't get too much into the show until the second half. I watched it on and off for a lot of the first half, so I generally try and get people to watch it till the second half before just dropping it.

Yeah on further thought defining what an image macro is and isn't is a bit trickier than it looks. What I meant (what I think I meant) was

- any image that features text explaining why the image is funny. We can go with "anything in motivational poster format" at this point.
- lolcats and derivatives thereof

Sound effects, comic dialogue etc., those things are fine. HERE ARE THINGS THAT ARE AN IMAGE WITH TEXT AND YET PERFECTLY FINE
