Naming of mountain dew.
I honestly had something to say on citrus drinks being named "Mountain" anything. Notice the knockoff brands also LOVE to put "Mountain" in the title.
Why?! It's CITRUS! When is the last time you've seen citrus fruit grow on a mountainside? AND WHY IS IT GREEN?! Actually, Mountain Dew is apparently named "mountain" due to it's popularity in Appalachia, something to do with bootlegging or something, but that STILL doesn't explain the green, and why every citrus drink feels the need to label their drink as "Mounain" this. Even Shasta's knockoff comes in a green can and is called "moon mist" This is standup material.

Well, when people hear "mountain," it brings to mind all sorts of fresh spring/meltwater, which has dominated the image of bottled water for ages. The fact that it's called "dew" as well brings images of freshness straight from nature itself, clean condensed water on a leaf. In short, they're trying to make it sound as refreshing as possible.
Basically, the idea is to name citrus soda after the coolest, most refreshing things possible, like mountains, mist, dew, the moon, etc. Edit: Also, it's green because it's lemon/lime soda.

Blue, you put the cart before the horse. Mountain Dew was around LONG before commercial mountain spring bottled water. Also, Mountain Dew is mostly made of orange juice concentrate, and they just add a ton of Yellow 5 or Yellow 40 or something to change it's color. LiveWire actually has a lot less dye than regular Dew.
MTN DEW makes me want to call it "Mutton Dew" which sounds very... unique. Also, I miss livewire. That was the best drink ever, and "limited time" was such crap. Why isn't it called "Island dew?" though? I think it would be a cool name, reflect more accurately where the ingredients come from, and still maintain the "freshness" appeal. Pacific Island Stream, it's X-Stream! Edit: apparently LiveWire is still available in some areas. I don't see why they had to have only one winner in their DEWmocracy promotion, I personally liked all three flavors. :/

I suppose it's just brand recognition at this point, with little or no consideration for sensibility of any kind.
I mean, Mountain Dew: Pitch Black? (which was awesome) yeah, why even go with 'Mountain' anything. Maybe like... 'Grape Dew' from grapes grown near a nuclear reactor?

The MTN Dew thing just angers me. I don't know why. I don't even like Mountain Dew, yet that sequence of letters enrages me.

As for the cart before the horse, I'm sure people have been drinking fresh mountain water for much longer than the bottled water industry, anyway, but I will concede the point that the bottled mountain water craze started with a specific brand from a specific spring that was so pure chemists used it because it was cheaper than distilled water. I forget the name. Edit: Still looking for the name of the stuff I was talking about, but apparently, bottled water has been around since the sixteenth century.
