Blue magic doesn't suck...

Blue Magic is learning spells/abilities that enemies use against him. Keep this in mind.

Blue Magic itself doesn't suck, Blue Magic possessed by Black mage sucks pretty bad so far.

Trouble with Blue Magic is that it must:
A) Be a compatible ability
B)Hit Black Mage
C)Black Mage must survive the attack

The problem with this is:
A) Few are stupid or reckless enough to fight Black Mage with spells/abilities that could be used against them
B) Black Mage is a coward who will avoid being hit by anything
C) Black Mage is a glass cannon, hit him with anything and he goes down, thus making learning Blue Magic difficult in and of itself (Fighter probably would ahve made the best Blue Mage, or Red Mage since he would have had the determination and desire to go out and track down the actually useful abilities and let himself be hit by them)

Black Mage has a grand total of ONE useable ability, Goblin Punch. personally I maintain that Goblin Punch will be the move that ultimately destroys Sarda.

BM droping Sarda with one blow to the balls. That would really make my day. lol

But yeah BM and blue magic hasn't mixed very well till this day, and I don't see it ever doing him any real good in the near future. But Brian loves to screw with us so who knows, maybe BM might learn something vital during his fight with Sarda.

Guys, he doesn't have to learn only spells that target him. Its just that spells are the most likely thing to affect BM. 7 is an ability. One way or another, he certainly can learn that. He can learn anything that affects him. I admit, 5 & 6 are probably less than perfect, but 4 is more likely.

TimeMonkey, I disagree with a) and b). Hit implies it has to damage him. I think it just has to affect him, like I just said; and compatible? I don't think there is actually many incompatible things. Gotta say, completely agree with second paragraph/thesis statement...

No, it has to be something from a shard of chaos (i.e. a monster). This was stated in the comic.

The only reason BM learned anything from Sarda is because Sarda wanted him to.

No, hit implies connect. You can be hit by White Wind or Mighty Guard. Black Mage seems to be aware of when he learns new abilities, he's tried every one he's learned very quickly after learning it. You're making a lot of assumptions that have no real basis, Black Mage has only learned Blue Magic that has been used specificaly on his person and is a specific effect. He can't learn the A/B hole thing as Blue Magic any more than he can learn sword skills by letting people cut him to pieces. It's not like he learned getting his hand cut off and reattached.

Then why didn't he learn the healing magic that put his hand back on? Or the restoration magic Sarda has used on them all?


I believe Black Mage was turned into a Blue Mage to limit his power, rather than increase it when he earned a Class Change. He was given the only class that makes him less effective, especially since he seems so determined to get something out of it that he keeps firing away whenever he learns something new from Sarda. I think Darko isn't there to help him, but to hold him back.
