Here is my issue with this as a concept. You ask me to give you money to keep a show on the air. Then if you get enough, you are then going to still make me sit through commercials and buy DVDs. So you are essentially asking me to pay you, to try and sell me something.

Network/whatevers: "We don't see this as being a profitable thing for us anymore."

Show Folks: "Oh. Well, here. We'll go talk to the fans."

SF: "OK, we have found a way to generate funds and have enough to cover much of the overhead, making it easier for you to get to the part of television that generates you money with quite little cost to you / the former financial backers waiting for profits."

N: "Ahh, we are suddenly more motivated to keep this show going, then."
