Super Soldiers: Awakening
Date: August 27th, 2157
Location: Top secret government research facility and army base in southern New Mexico. Level B3, inner chamber. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "So, you actually trust those crazy assumptions?" "What assumptions?" "That those...things...they'll be safe." "Captain, we've run all of the tests in the book, even ones not mentioned, twenty or thirty times. They've been green each time. There's no reason to worry. You're such a pessimist." "It's just that...I don't know. Weren't we all against this just a few years ago?" "Opinions change, Captain. And circumstances. In the world that we live in now we need leverage, advantages, "plan B"s. It's our turn to step down and give new ideas a shot. We may not agree with it, and our worries may even be right in the end. But, until then, we have no choice but to wait and see." "Sure, we always have to wait." The captain and female lieutenant stood in the dimly lit metallic observation chamber. They both glanced over at the circle of glass chambers in the center of the room. They let out an inaudible sigh as they heard the hiss of the main door opening behind them. Out of the light emerged an aging scientist. He had greying hair, but still could pass for fifty, highlights and all. His face looked grim. "How are you two today?" They both acknowledged his question with a lie and fell silent. "Okay then." He walked over to a line of computers situated in front of the capsules. His strokes of the keyboard awakened the screens as he ripped through password after password to arrive at a red and blue screen with the word "initiate" written across a small grey button. At that moment, the captain and lieutenant were surprised to witness yet more scientists pour through the security door. They varied in ages and stature. The first scientist looked towards the group and addressed them. "I wish I had something witty and memorable to say before something as momentous as this. But, I guess we'll have to leave that to the guests of honor." He slid the cursor over the button and left-clicked.
