Default Duel, part one

One sunny Sunday afternoon, in a faraway old town,
It was right there, in that town square, a Duel was duly bound.
It was for honor of another, as one so plainly put it,
Though it is known, and has been shown, that honor had mistook it.

The one proclaiming defenses was the newest of the three,
The oldest one would just have none of the youngest's fervent plea.
The middle one, the only girl, sat on the side, looking on,
As old and young, with sharpened tounge, threw verbal insults in a song.

The crowd around these two now grew as tempers flared so fiercely,
And soon they spelled for them, by yell, why they simply gazed so steely.
A stolen heart, the adult claimed, while he had been away,
The girl looked down, straight at the ground, unsure of what to say.

The boys would not just sit around and banter all day long,
So finally it came to be that both their swords were drawn.
A wave of gasps, along with shock, was sent throughout the crowd,
As both of them moved 'round each other, neither backing down.

The girl watched in deep despair as both the men prepared,
Silent, she stayed, her mind unswayed by the two for which she cared.
A steely gaze between the two was held four moments more,
Then finally, the tension freed itself as they moved to warn.

A streak of movement, a clash of steel; the duel had now begun,
The men were at the center of the square beneath the sun.
They pushed away each other's swords, steel shining so brightly,
Then in he came, the young one's aim at the oldest of the three.

The slice was blocked with expert care, as one could plainly see,
The old looked down upon the young; fighting won't be easy...
The young one's strength was winning out over the elder's parry,
The older one was not yet done, and pushed against, quite wary.

Silent still, she couldn't move, nor think of what to do,
And watched while frozen, unaware that neither one was true.
But all believed that in the end, there would be some bloodshed,
And that whoever won would be the one to take the other's head.

{End of part one}
