I never really worked out hte point of Gau. Mainly, his starting stats are attrociously op, and with the correct application of esper buffs, he can outstrip even sabin in pure strength, making his physical specials in various rage forms obscenely powerful, and not dependent on any complex button presses or power up timers. He effectively becomes a "set it and forget it" killing machine.
