BEARD IMPACT

Hey guess what? It's ALIVE!
When we last saw Mary Worth...
Ah, she'd found her way home again. Something tells me I will regret coming back. Let's just say it's not going to be the homecoming you thought you were getting OR the homecoming a mage of your power deserves. Anyways, welcome back to Candlekeep! There's not a whole lot to do here (yet). First things first... We pay the book toll and are permitted to go inside. I...guess that makes sense. Good old Hull. Well at least he seems normal. That is to say, useless. Parda's still hanging around, offering her words of wisdom. She's also equally useless, but at least she clues us in to what's going on around here. You're kidding me. You have to be. There is no way those fiends could have gotten here. Good old Reevor still seems to think he's in the army/guard... ...And old Windy's here as well still! This is important because hey, he buys quite a few items. He's nowhere near Friendly Arm Inn level of being helpful, but at least he tries. Dreppin gives us a plotbat upside the head, like almost everyone here. Seriously, do they think I have the attention span of a gnat? Yet another freaky dream sequence later... Behold! An ability I probably won't use. Ever. Mary has no reason to be in melee range at all, which is what that ability is all about. So Gorion was a Harper? Surely this will not come back and bite me in the ass at all. Ye of little faith. Well I think that's everyone- Into the library then, I've a score to settle! ...As I was about to say before you rushed in, there's still one place we've yet to pay a visit to. Gods, no! They ARE here! Oh this cannot be good... This does not bode well at all... Who DOES that? 'Oh hey, I'm just gonna found a library out here on the coast in the middle of nowhere so that I can have a place to rest when I'm dead.' Apparently Alaundo does. I do not trust this man or his ring at all. Plus, his name. How stupid would I have to be to miss that? I know. That's like saying, 'Hi, I'm Alucard' and expecting people to miss it. CHAAA- Ahem. What? Why SHOULDN'T I kill them? Give me one good reason. The rules are very strict here. You do that, you WILL be arrested, found guilty, and shipped off to Baldur's Gate for execution. ...*Sigh* You're right. The watchers are everywhere. Plus it's hardly GOOD to attack the heads of an organization, or Lawful to do so while they're in a guarded library. You made your point already, quit it. Fine, but I want to try something. Leave Imoen here to spy on them while you go upstairs. Oh not another one! Meet the Well now, this could be interesting... Red added to show where the title of this thread came from. Huh. Alaundo made some prophecies, eh? Let's take a gander... This...tells me nothing I did not already know. Note: You really don't have to find these to progress, but I think this is the only in-game hint as to what's GOING to happen in the next 'Book.' Anyway, storytime. Let's read up on Bhaal. And now you see why I don't do updates with books more often. Don't worry, this is the only time I'll do it, and this is the only book I found necessary to read, ever. Granted, you don't have to, but wouldn't you want to learn why Bhaal became the Lord of Murder, of all things? What? This is complete bull- I'll stop you before you finish that because I agree with you. Imoen's seeing them still alive, so we couldn't possibly have killed them! Oh come ON! You told me not to, so I didn't, but this happens anyways? Yeah, but there is a way out, remember? So what, if I HAD killed them, he wouldn't show up to save me? Eh, something like that. Hold on to your hat, though! To be honest, I have no idea where this small little antechamber is in relation to everything else. Or anything else we're about to encounter. But hey, we're alive. Welcome to the catacombs under Candlekeep. You can see the quickest way out is to the north-east. But any adventurer with a brain would want to explore to the north-west and south-west as well. But first, DOPPLEGANGER OUT OF NOWHERE. Oh gods no! This can't be real! Anyway, this is what you can expect in the southwest. Traps everywhere. The only way I could find some of them was to use Jaheria, since apparently finding the traps is a bit more difficult than disarming them. We eventually got the casket open... Found yet another book for Mary, along with another ring of fire resistance for Kahlid. Later we can have so much fun with that... Dynaheir makes herself surprisingly useful and clears out the north-west with a combination of the wand of flame and the wand of cold. Meanwhile, frustrated by a lack of treasure in one of the coffins to the south-west, Imoen stumbles across a nest of gigantic fucking phase spiders. Mary shows up with a wand of flame to deal with them. Phase spiders are bad news. They can dimension door at will and their bite causes characters to rapidly die due to poison. They'd be like a spider ninja if not for the fact that half our party hits hard enough to gib things. Breaking open the casket reveals the last book in the game for Mary to use/abuse, so we get the hell out of here. Part two! Oh this place is a nightmare. Could it have something to do with faces from my past showing up as dopplegangers? Nah, it's like they tried to apply the mindscrew here and failed miserably. Oh hey, these guys could be helpful. Granted, they don't actually join, but they at least stand between you and random baddies. Just don't go into the middle for two reasons: It's full of traps (Which these guys somehow fail to set off!) and it's full of random skeletons. Yeah, as I was saying, it's really a failed mindscrew here. How can you say that? I know these people! Yeah, but you saw them all not two hours ago, right? So you're saying that this is an attempted takeover, which I'm now thwarting, because I saw all those people hale and hearty not too long ago? Well it's either that, or everyone is a doppleganger upstairs, and these are just, I dunno, initiate dopplegangers learning of your life and interactions between you and these characters. How stupid do they think I am? I at least offered them a chance to flee. Anyways I think I'll go with the first option. Good choice, because the second one brings up the question of how LONG they've been dead. Welcome to part three, we're almost out of here. First of all, for shits and giggles, Mary summons up a few dozen canids and turns an ambush into a dogfight. Then she flames them a few times and they fall over due to acute failure. Picking this scroll up and making our way past the basilisk lair, we prepare for a great test of wits. Well, not so much, really. At least chapter six is done and dusted. Kahlid also picked up a new toy, and- Mary? What are you up to? I need a drink. Bartender, one of everything. Then double it. Next time: The end of the regular story. That is, if Mary isn't hung over.
