What Tarquin describs in this comic actually is one. If Elan "wins", Tarquin really wins by becoming "A legend", which is what he really wants.

Not if he doesn't die epically. What I'm saying is that if he's building up to a dramatic moment that will change all of history for him and his legend, then what's to stop him from being killed by the Newest Big Bad (ie Xykon) who can just stomp him out with a few spells. That effectively kills his mojo by making him a side plot.
It's a gamble that this will work. A lot better than running to the Sorting Algorithm of Evil. I'm mainly pointing out that his gambit could fail epically for him (which is what I believe the Giant may just do)
