I don't know if this is the right place to just shoot the breeze about Minecraft stuff, but man am I bummed out.
Was showing my oldest single player 'world' to a friend, after showing him one of my newer generated ones, and after I loaded up the world, I discovered it spawned me nowhere that looked familiar, as In I was on a tower, but it looked different and there was no way to get down. Then I discover that I was on my tower, but it was as if someone had taken a huge chunk out of it, and replaced it with generated blocks. My entire home, safe for a few mid-air creations afield of it, was gone. The only thing that remained were the relatively recent creations, like my blackrock gate. In fact, the only way I could get back up without building a crude staircase was to travel through the nether to the other doorway. My garden was still there, so were my attempts at a mid-air rollercoaster, and luckily the parts that weren't erased included where I kept my food and tools. Since my house was built directly on top of my dungeon of tunnels, I was worried about how I'd check if they were there underneath the water, so I entered an old offsite cave entrance, and worked my way into the usual areas. And things were bad, real bad! I kept getting lost because despite having set markers for myself, because large parts of the tunnels were unrecognizable. I'd see these black walls that wouldn't go away with light (having torches right next to them) and walking into them would generate a new tunnel or cave wall. I eventually did find my own area and climbed it upwards to where my house used to be, even finding my doors and torches, only to find a gravel and stone wall where the ladder to the above used to be. I had a secondary base far below, where i harvested obsidian and lava, only to find that while the lava and sand markers I had put down were still there in a crude "lava" moat fashion as I had left them, the actual room the lava moat guarded was now solid rock. Even dug into it to see if I could get at the chest that used to be in the room, but no, gone. Sure, i still had the majority of my stuff (present on my person or in the surviving chest) but in the end, I ended up deleting the old world. It did lack some of the newly generated features, like the biome, snow, new trees, but at the same time it was my first. But it was a shame to my efforts wiped away, as if some interdimensional beast from the nether just came and took a bite out of it, and I didn't feel like letting it limp around, beyond my ability to repair. Funnily enough, the last time I played I had just created a portal through the nether but I doubt it was to blame. The map was from when Minecraft was made free for a while, back in early Alpha, so I guess one of the new updates must have broke it. Or all the sand and gravel under my tower collapsed or I dunno! BLARGH! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4241108/Mine...arkportal3.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4241108/Mine...arkportal2.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4241108/Mine...Darkportal.jpg Rest in pieces, tower in the sea! Also, on a neat tips and tricks ideas, Flaming bonfires with netherrack or just the tops of stumps in an open field (or on the roof of your house) is the best way to farm animals and kill unsightly monsters!
