The Mechanic, or, The Grace of Statham

This movie isn't particularly enlightening but holy shit Jason Statham can shoot people with a grace which brings back fond memories of '80s action movies like few other actors in this day and age. Liam Neeson is in another upcoming one which looks to equal Taken as well so apparently this is a good year for quality action movies.

Now I haven't seen the Charles Bronson movie (well actually I think I did when I was about five but it's pretty hazy), however the plot is basically the same, I believe the difference is the immensity of the action scenes, probably approaching something more along the lines of Death Wish 3 but with better choreography and jumping off of buildings than that particular movie. Which if you have seen it is mostly Bronson shooting people with various guns and/or bazookas, but without the particular GRACE with which I desire in my mindless action movies.

In this case, Statham delivers. I would say this is the best Statham movie since the original The Transporter, which was far better than the other ones and pretty much anything else he's made since then (The Bank Job was good but was not really an action movie per se, and War, despite teaming him up with Jet Li, had plot holes too large to overcome. And you all probably know my thoughts on The Expendables which despite Statham being the best part of it was so poorly directed and shot that it reduced the enjoyment of it greatly).

The Mechanic is well shot, well told, and well acted. It returns Donald Sutherland to the screen. It contains a scene wherein a man is thrown out of a bus window and then immediately run over by a car. It is amazing.
