Default When it seems too obvious, its usually a trap.

Muscles tensing and enlarging with a sudden infusion of supernatural energy, Jay spun toward Zet and fell smoothly into a batting position. The youth's blunt weapon lashed out, moving so quickly it wasn't even visible. A sharp, high retort sounded, as the aluminum club struck the side of Zet's face. The muscled red head's face snapped to the side, sunglasses flying from his face, as the force of the attack carried him into the air and off to the side.

Zet flew in an arc for a moment, before his weight brought him crashing to the ground, rolling over and over in a limp flurry of motion along the Field floor. Around his wide frame, the blue-green flames of his aura gutted out, and he lay still several meters from Jay.

At that same moment, orange light flared as Shin pushed her remaining energy into a final surge of inhuman strength. Vines were ripped from the ground, along with jagged fragments of strangely solid dirt, as the mohawk'd girl's already well built muscles bulged and rippled, and she regained her feet. Red eyes furious, Shin's grip tightened on her spiked club.

Forcing her exhaustion down, Shin charged for Hannah's back.

Altered by her preternatural senses, Hannah spun toward Shin. Expression dark with fury, her grip on her wooden stakes whitened. "I don't-"

Green eyes widened, and she gasped.

The attack, unfortunately, missed.

"Okay, we'll compromise," Sean offered, once again serving as the voice of reason. A few paces away, Adeline offered a relieved sigh, lowering tensed form of her throwing arm slightly. In her fist, three shuriken, each glowing with faint white light rested. "I will not take one step towards the referee. I will take several steps towards the referee." He suddenly spun toward the red sweater clad woman, K thanks bye!" The Canadian took off.

Adeline gasped, "Sean-"

"No!" Sao's horrified shout was punctuated by a flare of brilliant blue supernatural light - she became lit up like a star. Vanilla shrieked, streams of pale smoke rising from her form, as she stumbled backward. A brilliant sphere of blue light burst from the conflagration, and Vanilla's scream suddenly died away. Sao sprang forward, leaving her former captress to collapse bonelessly to the ground - at Johanna's feet. The black eyed and pale haired girl hid her transformed hand coolly behind her back.

Sean's aura flared orange, as he set his sights on flash tackling the Ref, and van-

Something black flickered in the air between the half-demon and the Undine.

Brilliant blue crushed into blurred orange.

"Hey Ref!" Jackson called, aura pulsing, "To your right!" He fell into a martial art's stance, bringing his knee up. Wind swirled around his feet. His leg lashed out in a controlled kick, launching a bolt of air, glowing black with supernatural light. Instead of allowing it to fade though, Jack flared his aura again, bringing his leg back into the initial kicking position in a blurred movement. He lashed out a second time, aura pulsing almost painfully from the sudden stress. A second wind bolt flew. Then, forcing yet another burst of speed -

Dizziness assaulted his senses, as a crushing sense of vertigo swept up on him. His body seemed to throb, as the supernatural energy was harshly rejected by his exhausted muscles. Jack staggered, but two wind bolts still flew in the air. Despite the Ref looking at him, she had made no calls - could it be that she couldn't see magic? Th-that wasn't possible, was it?

"Professor Shuyin!"

Aura flaring blackly around her, Hannah was suddenly in the path of Jack's air bolts. Her Flash Step's conclusion leaving her vulnerable for an instant, the blond girl was helpless as the first sphere of air slammed into her gut, causing her to bend double reflexively. The second projectile struck her head, and she staggered back, letting out a pained gasp. She collapsed to her knees.

Jack might have counted this a victory, if he wasn't suddenly struck by a flying Canadian. Sao's strange new aura projectile had caught Sean - with impossible luck - the instant he'd entered his Flash Step. Now, the half-demon and unbalanced wizard were thrown into a confused mass of limbs - and slammed into the side of the south-west planter.

Something heavy fell from the tree above them.

Faint black light was visible around the puma, as it landed heavily, in front of the jumble of limbs that was Sean and Jack. Balanced on four padded feet, the golden-brown eyes of the creature stared balefully down at the boys, and a low growl loosed from its lips.

Oh shi-

Dal's hand closed on his rapier, as he drew the weapon in a flash of silver. Eyes narrowing, the Fae flung the blade with all his might, aiming at the screen above the keyboard that Marisa operated. The silvery weapon tumbled end-over-end, streaking through the air, as a flicker of black light appeared around it, the instant before it struck the Machine.

Steel collapsed, as the summoned weapon slammed tip-first into the monitor. Incandescent blue electricity crackled over the rapier from an instant, as the screen collapsed into a field of static. Eyes wide, Marisa stumbled back a pace, just before a spoke-filled explosion erupted from within the machine, throwing her back against the tree-box behind her.

Dal arrived at the dark and shattered from of the box-like device's screen moments later. His rapier was tarnished slightly, but otherwise unharmed, still jutting from the destroyed glass square – he could resummon it whenever he needed it.

"You…" Marisa's voice floated above the smoke, which cleared slowly, "Do you have any idea what you've done!?" The smoke melted away, revealing the blond woman, back against the flat marble of the planter, sitting crumpled on the grass. Her eyes were fixed on Dal, pupils fully dilated.

Everything turned black.

Aura burning with a blackness of its own, Diana flipped over the girl's slashing daggers, neatly evading the attack. Landing dexterously on the branch her attacker had had just occupied, Diana quickly got to business, asking the question that burned in everyone's mind! "Are those ears real?"

Looking confused, the sandy haired knife-wielder turned back to Diana. Her next smile was goofy and she winked, "I've no idea what you're talking about." The black motes of light around her shimmered darkly. "But you move pretty quick for a city -"

"Hie!" Kohana had appeared at the base of the northwest oak, his shout cut Hie – the knife wielder, presumably – off. "Get down from there, and leave that girl alone! What the hell are you doing?!" His own, newly revealed, canine ears twitched. "I'm serious, get out of that tree or I'm kickin' your ass!"

In response, Hie grinned broadly, and raised her daggers before herself. "But Kooooh," She dragged the first syllable of his name out, somewhere between affectionate and whining. Her expression turned predatory, "I wanna see how good she dances."

She tensed to spring -!

"Hannah!" Jolted from his conversation with Professor Landry by the damage the blond had suddenly taken - seemingly from the air itself - Shuyin rounded toward the blond girl. "Are you alr-"

"Of course she is!" Professor Landry's merry laughter cut through the Field. "Do you really think that a student trained by me would be so easily vanquished?" Her hand lashed out, finger accusatory, "Shuyin! Even two years in your fanclub can not corrupt one of my pupils!"

"Will you shut up!?" Hannah shouted, black aura flaring brightly around her body as she surged to her feet. Her blond hair had been torn from its bun, and now hung limply past her shoulders in sweat soaked strands. Green eyes furious, "You-!"

A tidal wave of darkness, seemingly rising from everywhere at once, cut her off.
