Like basically I generally don't like it in animes when they kill off every major character except the protagonist just because like hey it's the end of the anime, we don't really need any of these people any more .

It just ends up seeming really forced and kind of takes me out of the story. Also it kind of plays up the kind of "the only important character is the main hero, everyone else only matters to the extent that they service his personal journey" vibe that I don't really enjoy.

...Like, they kill the cat in just the most ridic, offhanded way, it was just like... really? I could even kind of buy killing the old guy but the cat is just slapped on there.

Aside from that I should add that it did a good job of like, being an anime which relies heavily on unknowns, mysteries and conspiracies to build its appeal but then like actually revealing/resolving all of that stuff in a way that's interesting, satisfying, and makes sense of the stuff that led up to it.
