So, the anime subreddit guys decided to have their own awards, with blackjack and hookers. Here's an infographic with the results.
If nothing else, there was a more diverse crop of winners there.

It's a good, diverse list, containing many series that flown past my radar and others that don't get talked much - the Drama and Thriller specially - in most anime circles. I've added several to my To Watch and To Read lists.
