Default Robotrek

This is a game in which you play the role of a little inventor child and wander around the world of Roccoco fighting hackers.

The battle system is quite inovative for it's time, featuring a Lunar-esque map which makes both ranged and melee attacks useful. It also features an 'energy' bar, which depletes more or less depending upon what attack you use. For instance, using a laser uses more energy than swiping a sword. The weapons are powered off the robot's energy.

Not only that, but it has 'attack programs' you input into each of your robots, and, when they run, they'll do different things. Some notable ones cause the entire screen to explode, teleport you to all the enemies and cause you to slash them AND knock them away, etc. The programs available depend on what weapons you have, and how much energy each drains.

The only problem I have with that aspect is that it doesn't have quite enough combinations, and things like the axe, hammer, punch and sword used in conjunction with other items give the same effect... except you hit them with an axe, hammer, punching glove or sword instead of the same weapon.

All in all, however, battles are both fun and engaging.

Not nearly as entertaining as the little character quirks and humanities you'll find in everyone and everything. Even the faceless nameless villains, who have such memorable lines as "People just don't understand. Evil is good. Evil is the Job!" or "WAAAGH! GHOSTS!" The latter comes after you flip the breaker a few times in a haunted house. They also routinely complain about how their job sucks, talk about being understaffed, so on and so forth. You actually, almost, feel guilty for beating them up. Well, guilty or extremely justified because they're such lousy villains.

The actual plot, even, is rather good. It may be 'weakened' a bit by all the little jokes when it's trying to be serious, but, in the end, it just makes the game more enjoyable. I refuse to give much of it away here, because it actually manages to lead itself from one thing and into another extremely well, all without being predictable in the least. I'd hate to ruin the latter point for you.

This is one of my all time favorite games, and definately a game to pick up. Good battles, funny, innovative, and it's all tied together with a very solid plot.

...So good that I went to make a post, basically wondering how many people had actually heard of it, and I ended up doing an editorial/game review.

So, to the actual topic: how many people here HAVE heard about it?

Also: It's for the SNES. I was originally going to place a picture of the game box at the top, but I removed the pictures... and realized I hadn't mentioned that anywhere else.
