Default The Hitchhiker's Guide - movie

I just got back from seeing it, and I figured that there'd probably be a few people around here who'd like to know that, in the oppinion of someone who loves the books, it was pretty good. I don't think it was as gut-bustingly funny as it should have been, but I also don't think that could have been accomplished outside of the books, or maybe a long running series. The same style of humor is definitely there though, and as far as I can tell (it's been some time since I've read the first book) not much has been altered. Of course, I'm sure some things have been taken out, but I couldn't tell you offhand what they are. I'm sure everyone already knows the sorts of things that happen, but I'm going to throw this next bit behind spoiler tags just incase.

Possible spoilers somewhere in here: I felt that the actors played their roles well, and I particularly liked Marvin. The narrator from the preview does the whole movie, mostly as the voice of someone reading the Guide. I don't remember that there was any real romance between Trillian and Arthur in the book, but I remember seeing one of the previews, and thinking it would be emphasized a lot in the movie. It's not. Basically, it amounts to one almost-romantic scene at the very end, and a little bit of awkwardness in the middle. Like I said, this might have been in the book, but I can't remember. I liked the ship's computer's voice, and while I think it was changed a bit, I did like the Infinite Improbability Drive(as I recall, it used to only effect one room or something). All in all though, I think it stayed pretty true to the book, assuming I'm remembering it right.

In any case, I enjoyed it, if that helps to allay any fears.

Edit: Wasn't really sure if I should put this in books or general, so feel free to move it. You won't hurt my feelings. I know that takes all the fun out of it, but let it never be said that I am considerate of other people's feelings.

Awesome art be here.
