The night air was very cold, in Salem. But the moon was out, full and bright, and countless were those who would count it a good omen, or portent of disaster. But all this talk, despite the paranoia that hung in the air like New England mist, had died hours ago. Now, a mere handfull of shadows danced quietly along the streets, burned onto store-sides and cobblestones by the moon's bony light.

In one corner of town, there was the creak of a door. The crisp air flooded in with wisps of frozen breath. A female turned from her reagents, but a moment too late. There was a motion, swift but exact... precise. And with industrious precision, the body of Mesden, White Magus fell silently limp, and was left quietly in the corner to await a blind discovery.

Across the small town of Salem, there was another sound, nearly as quiet as the first. A form, shrouded in darkness, creeping over the grass. He slid through a window, towards his sleeping target, when, suddenly: a noise. A magistrate in royal clothes there stood, his mind attent to the objects of his investigation, but it was enough. In a flash, the man was gone. The air was soon, again, still and quiet, as the pale sunlight embraced the horizon.

A form crept through the Salem streets this night, quiet and precise, like a machine. Stealing through alleyways to avoid what prying eyes might be lurking in the shadows. He found his target, and peered in through the window: everything was going according to plan. The lock on the door was easy to overcome, and he slid inside, nearly unseen. He leapt upon a startled Inbred Chocobo, Vanilla Townie and slit his throat exactingly before slipping back into the night.

Another, that night, slipped through the night air, hiding cautiously among the shadows. Slowly, he made his way the three blocks to his targets house, jimmied open a window, and slipped inside. His mark seemed to be gone, and the man looked around. Suddenly, there he was, Doppler12, Vanilla Townie, lunging at the man. He reacted quickly, in fear, and lashed out with the closest object on hand. Pottery smashed over Doppler’s head, and he fell. It wasn’t pretty, but it was good enough. The man fled back into the darkness.

It wasn’t long before the sun began to awaken, and the sky fill with color.

The Witch Hunt Mafia has begun.
The funny thing about all this is...

Nobody has been killed by magic, even though this is supposed to be a witch hunt. There was Jeneralissimo who died mysteriously, but we can assume that it's more of that age's lack of understanding about illnesses than anything else.

If this is based on the Salem Witch Trials, then there really are no witches (aside from Mesden, except she was a "Good Witch"); just a bunch of idiots who made very, very stupid decisions as they get caught up in the moment. And this time, we're the idiots.

Vote: No Lynch

Let's see if this works, WHILE we can afford to take a chance. We still have a fair amount of townies left, after all.

Besides, we don't have any evidence from either of the days, because so many of us were posting erratically that we can't single any of you out at the moment.
