NAME: Elle Vanar
DESIRED RANK: Master Chief Petty Officer POSITION: Chief Engineering Officer SPECIES: Cardassian AGE: 56 APPEARANCE: Elle stands 5 foot, 4 inches tall, with the typical grey Cardassian tone. Her hair is short, simple shoulder-length; once jet black but beginning to whiten in places. She has bright, blue eyes. BIO: Elle spent the first years of her life an orphan on the streets of Cardassia Prime, where she tricked and variously bullied other children for what little food could be had. Her ruthlessness caught the eye of a somewhat eccentric Cardassian who adopted her. Under the care of this surrogate father, Elle grew a somewhat traditionally Cardassian love of learning, particularly for the neat efficiency of machines, and she took to the rigid structure and mental training exceptionally well, no doubt due in part to the newfound lack of starvation. Elle’s eagerness and her adoptive father’s goals continued to progress as Elle found herself being groomed for a position within the Obsidian Order. Elle served in the Obsidian Order for many years as a general operative and technician. She sought to live up to the principles taught to her in her upbringing, and serve the Cardassian government through most of this time, but soon came to hear the arguments and reasoning of the growing number of malcontents in Cardassia and began to question the worth of the Cardassian government. However, knowing the power of the Obsidian Order, there was little to be done for it. However, when the Dominion came to Cardassia, and unrest among the Obsidian Order increased, Elle seized the opportunity. Posing as an attempt to use the Federation against the Dominion, Elle took up the identity of Elle Vanar, a Cardassian military engineer, and defected to the Federation. Using information from the Obsidian Order, and her memory of earlier service, she attempted to guide the Federation’s efforts against the Dominion. However, as the Obsidian Order deterrents against the Dominion failed, and the Obsidian Order collapsed, Elle found her worth as an informant diminish. At this time, she was taken in by an acquaintance -- Captain Morgan -- and acted as his advisor for the remainder of the war, providing what information she knew about Cardassian military members, tactics, and equipment. When the war finally ended, and Elle finally found herself with no homeland to speak of, and little in the way of allies save Captain Morgan, he brought her on in the provisional rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, “officially” operating in the capacity of his primary engineering advisor. PERSONALITY: Elle is often quiet, enjoying to read, particularly enigma tales—though she has more recently come to read the more disorderly, chaotic works that originate from other civilizations. She’s prone to being sarcastic in conversation, though helpful when she feels it necessary. Rarely, even in matters of importance, does she show any sense of taking things very seriously. She is also very secretive in all matters, important or not, and tends to tell whatever truth she deems important (or at least interesting) at the time.
