In my opinion doing the wrong thing when you SHOULD know it's wrong qualifies you as a jerk

He was doing the wrong thing, but for the right reasons.

I'd just like to point out that he was only obviously wrong if you had the knowledge of the viewer. Without knowledge of tropes, I'm pretty sure it was the smartest choice, which is why it sucked extra hard for Rossiu when the only clear and correct course of action was something that would hurt someone so close to him.
