So last night my team - Turk the half-orc monk, yours truly, Jordan a twin-sword fighter, Ellyhanna our sorceress, and Damien the rogue - go raiding some hobgoblin camps in a mining tunnel. When we get to the last part, the warlord of the hobgoblins is a big, burly guy with Fighter levels in full plate and a bastard sword.

I run up and take out the crossbowmen, killing his ranged support, and he starts to go after Jordan. Damien backstabs him once and gets one-shot to -5 hit points. Jordan is seriously getting whupped and Elly is able to neutralize his reinforcements, but we're running out of options.

A rust monster comes after us.

I see it with my darkvision first and go "JORDAN! RUN!" He starts to munch on the hobgoblins' armor first, and since I'm a monk I don't have armor, swords, and I bought Bracers of Armor earlier but specified that they had to be wristwraps, because I felt it was more thematically appropriate for monks. So I have no metal on me at all.

Fightergoblin power attacks Jordan and whiffs horribly, and I take my opportunity to jump on his back and grapple him, and then I pin him and, quote, 'try to make him look delicious.' My DM, upon hearing why I want to grapple him, asked, "Why?"

Two rounds later the rust monster starts munching on his armor, dropping it's scores drastically (My DM uses homebrew 3.0 rules for some, including rust monsters) and Jordan takes the opportunity to run away. I give him one solid flurry to the stomach, finishing him off, and the hobgoblins are quick work after that. I step on the bug and call it a day.
