"No, John. You are the Nazis." -- A Captain America: The Winter Soldier Thread
Guys. I think this movie was better than Iron Man 1. Guys. This movie? This movie was really, really good.
So. So good. It's so good that if I tell you anything about it it'll just not even capture how good it was. So you have to watch it. Seriously this is like '70s political thriller meets the Marvel-verse. It has Robert Redford AND Falcon. It has like character development and uh, themes. It has themes. Guys it has themes! So. You know. Go watch it. |

I really loved it! Just when you think that it won't top itself it totally does. Marvel is just getting better and better. There were a ton of 'oh shit!' moments and Falcon is just great. Finally we have a cool super hero who isn't a rich white guy in a movie. Plus forget jet packs, I want one of those Falcon wing packs. And the end battle is to chaotic makes Return of the Jedi's end battle look well ordered and polite. Yet you never lose the thread. You can tell who is doing what. I also loved all the little things like the detail of the Winter Soldier's arm. It has all these great sound effects to go with a great look. It's too bad they really didn't develop the man himself that much. I can't wait to see Guardians of the Galaxy because it will take the action off of Earth and into space. And in space they have lasers...Everything I know about space I learned from the James Bond film Moonraker.
Plus there was a special name drop that made me squeal. Yep, I'm a grown man who squealed in a movie theater.

Saw it yesterday, loved this movie, which is especially odd seeing as I thought the First Avenger was the weakest of the pre-Avengers movies. But this one is definately the strongest of the post-Avengers verse. Thor 2 was a bit meh and Ironman 3 annoyed me with its "twist," but was otherwise ok.
The twist in this though has just turned the whole series on its head. I can't wait to see how Agents of SHIELD deals with the fallout from this. And that stinger at the end, holy shit can I just say I FUCKING CALLED IT on Loki's staff containing the Infinity Gem of Mind. Also Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch make their first appearances hell yeah! And of course, that certain name dropped character that could also have huge implications later on too. You know the one I mean.

Okay I just watched this movie today and I mostly liked it, even though it adhered to a lot of cliches even while it tried to break others but there was one thing really bugging me:
At one point in the movie it mentioned that Black Widow apparently served the KGB at some point but its also claimed that she was born in 1984. The Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, she would have been 7 years old. Did the Soviet Union just collapse much later in the Marvel Universe? E: also how come no one ever aimed for Bucky's head or Cap's feet Last edited by Bard The 5th LW; 05-03-2014 at 08:37 PM. |

This is also a universe in which Nazi super-scientists used an alien energy source to create laser tanks and singularity bombs in WWII, but were defeated by a genetically enhanced super soldier who sent their boss into space. I think the timing of the fall of the KGB may just be a little bit different in this alternate universe, and is probably the least of the historical accuracy issues.
